    Here's a crazy idea:
Why don't you just use what the service manual says to use??

he's only got what two to three more weeks of weather that might
possibly get close enough to be warm enough for 60 weight, maybe
at noon or 1 pm downtown in traffic next to a fire....

Pretty soon he'll need 20 W just to get it started brrrrr...

Don't worry JB pretty soon you'll need a shovel...

A radiator from a 350ci chevy would prolly work good. Mount it to the frame and run oil thru it.

But seriously, since I do live up here in AntArtica, I decided that the best way to go is use 10w40. My logic is that I think that it will flow a lot better and keep it cooler because of the increased flow.

Summertime 20-50...cooler temps when it gets down to the 40* and lower, then use 10w-40

Have always used 20 50 and have never had a problem with it starting. At least in the Sportster. 10w 40 sounds like it would work well in the warmer weather. I think that I may try it. :D

    ya got that backasswards JB

    thinner in the winter
    thicker in the summer

the 20W means it starts out as 20w oil when cold and as the temps rise
    acts like a 50

10W-40 would be thinner at start and never get as thick at 40W max

20W-50 is correct, you should run Mobil1 Vtwin syn in that bike in the summer
it's better at lubricating and will be better at keeping heat down..

I run 70W molasses in my shovelheads. It's about as thick as water when hot in the florida heat. Only problem is the bikes won't start when it's below 50 degrees.
