If you get a RoadGlide you will have to have the full windshield. Or it will blow your head off. You will have to get the hardware to go inbetween the faring and the frame to keep the wind from blowing threw the hold there.
Got a buddy that got caught up in the hype. He said he wished he had his batwing faring back
I tried to git him to demo the bikes 1st but his fever over rode that.

I went to at least 5 demo days a year for about 5 yrs. I kept testing the Roadglide
Got buddy's with them. Nearly pulled the trigger on one.
Got off a SE roadglide and got on a SE Street Glide and I knew immediately my fever had broke. I wanted to stay with the batwing fairing.

Go to Demo days and test drive the bikes over and over and over.
Harley has the DEmo days so you can test drive bikes so you can get a better understanding of the bikes. Some bikes you may think you like you may find out that you don't like.
Do not git in a Hurry to buy a bike take yer time. Do your homework
See what you may want. What I like may not fit you.

I think the pinging comes from the state of tune(very lean) that HD puts in the ECM. My bike, with the canned download for my slight mods, Has a slight ping at times even when puttin with 2 up at 2100 rpm in lower(3rd,4th) gears. Always did. 63k on it and no problems so far. BTW somewhere in the owners manual I read once that LIGHT pinging is not a concern. I'm sure a PC3 or PC5 would elliminate it at the cost of the EPA.regs.

Yup...Very lean...I would be concerned with any pinging...PCIII or V and a good tuner will take care of that problem...

Depends, if you built it right from the get go,
people forget that when you build a engine up
you have to do the brakes, trans, drivetrain, belt etc

One was built by GMR, He will not go back.
    One is a S&S motor.

All the power from the motor stresses out everything on the bike.
And you can't do anything about the fuel milage.
Both dudes has already had 2 trannys in the bike.
YOu are constantly doing something to the bike.
Why ain't you still running your 124 ?
Cost a lot of money to keep it up.
A 110cu motor from Harley is a more dependable motor. Bottom line.
And it gets a whole lot better fuel milage
And if it breaks down on a trip you can take it to the dealer and have it worked on.

The guy with the S&S 124 has it in a 2000 model EG. He wants to sell the bike.
The motor is worth more than the bike is worth. Good money throwed away.
He finally broke down and got a 12 Ultra Limited. He has a extended warranty.
He can ride it everyday. not work on it and get better fuel milage and has great power with the 103

Bottom line. Quit throwing money in a OLd bike, Get a new bike and you will be much happier in the long run
Turn the switch on push button start. No choke needed
    Tune it with a computer.

Why would anybody want to go BACKWARDS.
The Twin CAm fuel injected is the best motor ever built.
Runs longer with less break downs and more dependable.
Do you like living in the past.
New brembo brakes. new fuel injected. Belt drive instead of chain.
Smoother running engines. More power. Better top end with less RPm
6 speed tranny's. Oil coolers, easier shifting trannys,
    Better clutch's. Longer life tires.
Aluminum wheels. Bigger Gas tanks. Stronger frames and suspensions
I've rode the Harleys form the Pan heads all way up since 64
The new twin cams from 11 and up are the best bikes ever built.

Does anyone really care what all the gang or club bikers are doing? Or anyone else? What is old? Some consider my 04 GeezerGlide old...I think it is a matter of personal preference and to me is all that matters...Some of us love what some consider old bikes...

    Depends on the person,
you gotta have the latest and greatest

Some folks like the old stuff
and if you can get the old stuff new
it's as good as the new stuff.

Yeah...It amazes me that some people do these builds without thinking about upgrading the brakes and other components...If you don't have the $$ to do it right then don't do it...Wait until you do...

The sound of the Shovelhead is great. you got it there.
I do a lot of riding.
I need the extra power and torque.
I get on the interstates a lot as well the back roads.
JUst rode the mountains of northern Arizona. 12 miles up one hill and 12 miles down another hill. They you do it again and again.
The speed limit is 75mph. If you run 75mph the traffic will be on your butt.
I ran 80 up and down the mountains for 2 days and the traffic passed me .
The shovelhead ain't gonna handle this all day at these speeds of 80-85 or so for hundreds of mines.

The speed limit here on 45 north is 75mph.
When you come out of the back roads and hit the interstate the cars ain't sittin still.

Newer bikes, more dependable, better fuel milage, easier to get parts for.
    Easier to work on.
Runs faster on top end for longer periods of time.
Geared for the interstate and back roads.
See how many folks are riding newer bikes and how many are riding older bikes.
