I started a thread about cam bearings and all of the feedback that I have been getting back so far is that Timken is the way to go. I posted a video of a guy going through a Twin Cam and he said that the numbers should be facing out in it and I am sure that it was you that said to make sure that the bearing is recessed about .025? I have every intention of changing lifters, I agree, if I am in there, I may as well change that as well. I am going to do a little more checking into the new plate and then oil pump. I have to be honest, if it is going to cost me an arm and a leg, then I will most likely skip the upgraded plate and pump.

You don't have to change the plate since you already have gear drives, just the bearings and oil pump.

I don't think anyone said go cheap....
Educate us then...I thought Harley's relied more on oil flow than pressure to cool them and 10-15lbs at idle is enough to push oil to the top end.
How does a higher oil pressure of a certain volume of oil cool better than that same volume at a lower pressure??
What pressure is a sufficient low RPM output??

The newer Harley Oil pumps are going to pump more oil threw the system.
Another reason HD came out with the newer style oil pump.
And another reason HD came out with the newer style cam plate with Hydraulic tensioners. Gear drive cams is old school and for totally Race motors.
The new 120R motos Harley sells if I remember right is hydraulic chain drive motors. NOT GEAR DRIVE.
Gear drive has its problems too if certains conditions happens.
    No forgiveness.
It would also help if you drill 2 1/8" holes threw the bottom of the rocker arm support plates for the oil to get back down to the bottom of the motor.

    Do some homework on this.
One of the mechanics with Hillside Cycles had this in a AIM magazine months back on building a engine.
I have a buddy who builds race engines and he tole me about it a long time ago.

I forgot to ask. Does Cometic make other gaskets other than head gaskets? If so, I need them as well.

You should be able to go threw a log of different suppliers to find cometic.
You also might need new orings for the push rod tubes.

I have been looking all over the place and trying to find a camplate conversion for my year. I am not seeing it yet. From what Ihave found for the 06 and up, these things are really expensive. $600+ OUCH!!!

If you are staying gear drive I wouldn't worry about the cam plate. But I would on the oil pump

The cam plate conversion is more than you realize.
Its the cam plate, the hydraulic tensioners front and back and chains for front and back and a New HD high volume Oil pump Orings and probaly new fastener's
and for the chain drive sprockets. And spacers in different thicknesses for the sprockets
If you go and buy the Hydraulic tensioners they were like 55.00 each .
Look at all the parts on he front. not to mention the back

I do not need to worry about the part with chain tensioners. But still expensive.

If you are staying Gear drive like some mentioned, I wouldn't change the cam plate. Just the Oil pump

I do not want a HD bike with gear drive cams. I've helped work with the gears and if a pinion shaft slips yer gears are gone faster than with chains.
Know some people have gone wild on gear drive for a few years now.
But a lot that has gone gear wished they had of went Hydraulic tensioners instead. Much easier to work with.

    1999-2006 Chain Drive Conversion Cams

Think about why a company as big as Andrews makes after market cam plates ?

Zanottis had the best prices on cam plates. They have sold out So I don't know if their prices are still 20% off. They used to sell SE cam plates for like 370.00

If you're staying with the gear drive,I don't think you need to change the cam plate that's in there now, just upgrade the oil pump
