Rode up to the dealer today - great ride - a bit cool but none the less a great ride - and talked about mufflers , fuel management & breathers and this is what we came up with. What's a few thoughts about this combo - V&H fuel pack # 1020-0360, Rush slash downs # 25301-175, Harley stage 1 EFI kit # 29773-02C. On the way back I stopped and got gas, BP premium, and figured the milage - 38.57 mpg. With this combo, any ideas of what the milage and other performance will be. The parts guy said he used this combo on another bike like mine and it would jerk the front wheel off the ground. Can't say that I overly interested in doing that - just want good solid unrestricted performance with the best economy I can get. Also he said the V&H fuel system was designed to be set up by the user. He did have this word of caution that any time the battery was disconnected or went dead that the codes would need to be reentered. I plan on doing my own install as I've kept my 71 Mustang going for 176K plus the previous four bikes.
Anyhow, what thoughts are out there about all this?

You would probably be better off spending a few bucks more and going with the power commander. The fuel pack is very limiting and the Power Commander gives a broader rang and fine tuning. If your on the road and a battery goes bad will you be able to insert settings back into the fuel pack?

I've done a lot of stage one systems over the years and none of the sage one installs would jerk the front wheel off the ground. You need a lot of torque to do that which would require a lot more engine mods than just a stage one setup.

Rush mufflers dyno charts that I have seen don't put out more than the others for HP and torque gains. Depending on what baffle you put in it the sound can be really loud to a more semi loud sound. You will more than likely get a 5 to 8 HP gain at the most. Your fuel mileage is going to depend on your fuel settings that you program into it and you would probably have to run a few tanks, check your mileage and fine tune your fuel management system from there.

I'm getting around 45-48 on the highway with my stage one setup on my Ultra and 38-42 around town.

Good luck with it and doing your own settings can be challenging but a lot of fun to.

I'll second FLHTbiker's advice by saying avoid the V&H fuel pack. Go with a Power Commander instead and you'll be much happier.

I originally added this yesterday but I'm not sure where it went - somewhere in Harley Cyberspace.
Anyhow I went by the Harley dealer yesterday and done some talking and pricing. This is the combination that I'm thinking of - V&H fuelpak #1020-0360, Rush slip ons #25301-175 and a Harley 1584 Stage 1 EFI kit #29773-02C. Any thoughts about this combination?
    Thanks much.

Don't know why but as soon as I posted the previous note, my other posting showed up with all the responses. Sounds like I need to stay away from the V&H fuel pack plus some other things. I'll check around for pricing on the other items. Thanks ever so much for all the advice!

If I were going to do the Stage 1, I'd take a good hard look at:

    Fuel Moto USA

I've had communication with them and was very impressed with their expertise. And the pricing on the PC III was excellent!

Additionally, from what I see on the web.....a very good rep for customer service.

Went to the Fuel Moto website and looked around. Left a few questions too. Thanks for the tip.

Is this all you'll be planning to do or do you think you be infected
with poweritus and need more more more later on LOL

If you think down the road you may add cams, or change to a 103, have the heads done, any or all of the above, then I would choose the powercommander, and find a good powercommander tuning center in your area.

Canned maps are ok but never are spot on, a good tune is the way to go for max mileage and power.

My first option would be the Zippers Thundermax, you get a new ECM with wideband 02 sensors that tunes itself as you ride, no dyno tuning needed, you can make your stage 1 changes and it will tune as you ride.

Later you change pipes, add cams, ride, it tunes it.
Bigger bore, heads etc it tunes itself.

Over time the thundermax is less expensive as you dont' have the dyno operator tuning expense.

A powercommander at $200 plus a $300 dyno tune is $500 for the first dyno
Second dyno to change things later etc.

And it tunes while you ride so it's fit to your bike, your riding and area IE Colorado vs Florida coast elevations.

This will probably be all that I will do. I'm happy with the way the bike is now. I just want it be as efficient as it can be at a reasonable cost.

    uh huh.... famous last words,

see what happens is you go for a ride with some friends, you tell them all about the pipes and how "fast" it is now.

Then next weekend one of the guys not only has a stage 1 but he drops in a mild cam

then you're not the top dog
then another pops on heads, cams

and you're impressed but left behind

so you buy high comp pistons, headwork, intake, bigger cam, tuning

and your scenery changes as you're the lead dog....

and it starts all over again..

    It's a sickness....

Been that route before, gotta have more power well my 09 has the stage one and that will be it, no more dumping money into engine mods. I really don't give a crap if Joe the plumbers bike has 120 HP or 90 HP I like mine just the way it is.

uh huh yeap been there heard that :D

When I get my next bike probably only do a few things to keep it reliable
the 124 tends to pound the crap outta stock parts lol

I can see some head work to clean them up
    Cams
    Pipes
    air filter
    thundermax
    true duals

    yeah that's gonna be it....

Like I said been there done that and I'm happy with it the way it is. The bike runs so good I just don't want NOBODY sticking their hands in it. I did a major upgrade on my last bike and had nothing but motor issues after that. I also did it on a 03 Ultra and the same thing so gonna keep it stock except for the stage one upgrade. Sooooooo, noooooo thanks. ;)

I thought that bike looked familiar.......I see you ride by often.....I'm usually in the garage tinkering. Got my tv, bar stools, fridge with adult beverages....and a propane heater for days/nites like recently.

I'm about halfway between Thiessen and Clackamas on the west side across from the berry fields....rust colored house/white trim.

Sorry for the hijack dmassey. ;)

Yep, was there at Latus before and after the toy run. I was one of the Parade Marshall blocking streets. Rode my Springer that day.
