Thats it ,,,the bike is so light that I am happy with the performance. The sewing machine sound at idle drove me nuts. So go ahead and put in the baffles eh? Thanks for the advice....how about tuning...will the ECU adjust for increased flow?

JMO, If that is all you have done I would ride it for a few hundred miles watching the exhaust pipe for color if it turns whitish you be to lean, black would be to rich. I believe that I read someplace that the ecu will adjust for small difference in flow, if you haven't changed anything else you should be ok, Again JMO. I would put baffles in, it will also give it a better tone.
As you can tell everyone has their own opinion. If you were to go for some kind of tuner I would get the Thundermax, it would probably work better than the stock ecu. I have friends that have bought the SC Super Tuner and they are not happy, and it cost a couple of hundred bucks everytime you want to fiddle with it.

I have a 07 heritage. Probably same bike except for a few mild cosmetic changes. I added Rush slip ons which made it sound like a harley but had some surge problems at lower speeds. Added a K&N air filter and it solved my surge problem and added a litle better throttle response. Enjoy your Heritage. They handle like a dream.

    Hi Harold,
Along with the K&N filter, did you not add a fuel managment system of some sort (if fuel injected) or a jet kit (if Carb)?

You're exactly right about the handling - like a dream!!!!!!!!!

Nope. Just slip ons and a K&N. Thats all it took. ran great. Did not need a fuel management system. Harold

    Harold.
Not sure when Harley went all fuel injection. Is your bike carbed or FI?

Did you keep the rest of the stock Harley breather; cover and back plate (with the three air inlets)? Is the throttle response through the entire range? How's the MPG? Interesting.

    Thanks,
    Danny

The bike is FI. It is completely stock except for rush slip ons and a K&N filter. It averages approx 48 MPG while cruising through the N. GA mountains and the temps remain fine. Of course the temperatures in the N. GA mountains are usually a little cooler than those in the flat lands. Throttle response is great in all gears at any speed. I really don't think you need to add a fuel management system. Dealers usually try to get you to buy as much as they can convince you that you need. Remember this - It is ok to lie, cheat or steal as long as you call it sales. I know for a fact. I use to sell cars. Rather be tortured than to do that again! What ever you do, good luck. All I know is I did very little and accomplished quite a bit when it comes to performance.

How soon would you notice a color difference in the plugs? Are you looking for the plugs to look too white and cracked insullator or am I completely off track?

Don't know. I have the bike serviced every 3 to 4K miles. It still has the original plugs and 13K miles on the bike. It still runs perfect. No problems. I am sure if it needed plugs when I had it serviced they would have noticed. Harold

reading plugs isn't the way to do it anymore the reading came from the lead in the old fuels,

now days gas burns so clean you really can't tell what's going on.

Best bet is a gas analysis done on a dyno, best way to setup AFR in the bikes ECM and to get best mileage while suppling fuel for power.

I guess you can't really go by the "bluing" of the pipes anymore either because I notice that my pipes, more rear than front, have already "blued" at only 600 miles.

My pipes have never blued and I just hit 14K yesterday on a 104 mile run through the mountains. It was 61 degrees here so I just had to get on and ride. Like I said. Slip ons and a K&N. Thats all it took and as long as she doesn't give me any trouble that is all she is going to get. As far as all that other testing I just don't think it is necessary.

That sounds GREAT! I don't really want to do a lot to my bike either. I didn't notice the bluing untill I looked at the reflection of the pipe on the oil tank. Although there's not a lot, it was concealed by the heat shield. I bet the N. GA mountains are pretty. We live about an hour from the Great Smokies so we go there accassionally. We're looing forward to taking this bike down there in the Spring. If you're a NASCAR fan and familiar with Bristol Motor Speedway, we're about 5 minutes from there.

For all the touring class riders -- I'm lookin at going to a true dual system on my 06 FLHTCI not for performance but for heat. I've been wondering if eliminating the right side rear pipe helps or just makes the single pipe on the rear cylinder that much hotter? I already went 100% synthetic in all 3 holes which helped a few degrees but I'm still cooking on those 95* days around town!

Wait about 60 days Thundermax will mabe have their tuner out for the 08-09 bikes. I'm waitin on a couple of them. With the Thundermax with Auto Tune it will give you the ability for the bike to tune as you ride and you can do more upgrades without havin to have yer bike dynoed.
t will give you the abilitty to change yer tuner to either a Arlen Ness High flow air kit or a zippers.
It yer lookin for performance I would look at either a Supertrapp 2in1 pipe or a D&D fatcat.:fight:

you might think about the V&H Big Shots. I have mine paired with the Arlen Ness Big Sucker and the V&H fuel pack. My 07 Street Bob has all the grip and power I could ask for.

i have a 97 softail custom that i bought in sept 2008, it has about 26000 miles on it. i do not know what type of oil was used in it, does it hurt to switch to synthetic oil if regular oil has been used all along?
