Believe me Chuck, the last thing I want to do is walk into my shop everyday and see my poor bike sittin there with no back wheel. It SUCKS! The worst thing is having to come home from working in the field all day and then have to sit in that friggin office for 3 or 4 hours. Being your own boss is so gggrreeeeeat! Yea right! :( I'll git er done, don't worry.....not that you are but you know what I mean!

    Workin hard

Hi All, I have been workin a lot till recently. The country club I work at is now in the slow season. I got my bike back with the steal braided brake lines installed and they work real good. Only once again the wind came along and blew my bike over.:fight Broke the brake lever again.  It's going back into the shop. Its leaking gas and needs a new battery , valve clearance adjustment, carbs need doing, all four of them, inspection, tune up and then he will run like a top. And I will be able to beat any harley in a heartbeat after all that mechanical action.:biker: And i can't wait for spring as I am going through not riding with drawels. We are gettin a big time snow storm and I was waiting for the guy to come and tow my bike to the shop. Only i dont think its happening today. And i am hoping to get some vacation time in July i want to see the Canadian Rockies, Montana, Wyoming and there abouts on the old yamaha 650 Maxim. Have always wanted to ride west and see those places. Would love to see Alaska and the Northern lights only its a bit too far and time won't permit it. That is my plan hopefully. If i can't i will have to setttle for Vermont and upstate New York. Happy Valentines day to you all. fireitup

    Side stand

Hi Chuck, Well I am a side stand user. I can't get the bike up on the center stand. Its too heavy for me. The times it blew over i had the cover on it and I think the cover acted like a sail created resistance and moved the wrong way. As soon as my auto mechanic gets his flatbed fixed he will tow it into Performance Motorcycle shop in rennsalear ny. those guys do top notch work on all makes for the most part and older bikes. the yamaha dealerships around here won't touch my bike. I could rant on about what i think of those a holes but i won't suffice to say they are not yamaha if they won't service mine. Jusst the same with the harley dealerships around here. Spitzies and the one outside of troy on route seven forgot the name . they won't work on older Harleys. When back in the day it was the" bad bikers" who got them through the rough times and now they won't touch there older bikes. Nothin pre 92. I don't have a garage for my bike and i won't trust no one to store my bike. if they decide they don't want me on there property guess who owns a bike? See what i mean. I have a hardened chain on it in the parking lot and now know to take the cover off on windy days. Thank you for your concern. very much. i can't wait for the warmer weather 26 degrees and i rrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiidddddddddeeeeeeeee. :D fireitup

Ok guys, a little update on the project....I FINALLY got to fitting the fender today, cut the windows into it, repositioned everything, and re-drilled the holes for the struts. Now, for tomorrow, I need to get the pockets cut and shaped, then welded into the bottom of the fender. I'm not so good at metalforming so this could be interesting. I might have to have my buddy do this for me. what doesn't help is the fact I only have a mig welder, no tig. If you boys got any suggestions or helpful hints, let me know. Thanks, I will post pics when I get a little farther along.

i have a mig also.....if your machine will spool it, get some .025 wire and turn the heat/speed down. if it has a stitch setting use it. if not just the ol' on/off will work. truth be known, long before tigs/migs ect, there was this tool called oxy/acet rig. it had a handle that fire came out of....and if you used a very small tip and a wire coat hanger you could actually preform some amazing metal sculpting!!!!lol:roflmao: .
when welding the thin gauge, do it in slow steps and cool it before moving on...the smoother and straighter you get your welds and metal work, the less "bondo" you will have to use, and thick bondo will lift, crack, and seperate if too thick.......have fun and i am glad your getting to do a bit of playing with the bike!!!!

Thanks Chuck, I will try to get out there today and git-r-dun as they say. The welding isn't too bad, but making the pockets is what's worrying me. they're odd shaped and they're under the fender so as to hide the old struts that were cut off. I'm sure it's not hard for someone with metalworking experience. I don't know if I should try to bang out the pockets or cut them square and fold them into shape. Guess I'll see how it works. Thanks,

Well boys, the fenders been cut and mounted and I should pick up my paint today sometime. I found a guy with a spectrum analyzer that checked the paint code and now a semi-friend at a local shop is mixing the color for me. 75 bucks versus 450 from HD. WOW, what a savings for me!! I'll update you as we get along!

All right Chuck, you've busted my nuts for long enough.......here are some pics!!! FINALLY!! I'm not done yet, but way farther along than I was, and way closer to being done. Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions. **Note the cardboard cutout in the rear of the fender** That will be where I'm going to mount strip L.E.D.'s for my running and brake lights. Off the bottom of that will hang my license plate bracket, just not sure how high/low that plate will be just yet. More pics to come.....Thanks for any suggestions/comments

Ok...for an initial suggestion, how bout you make those pictures at least 600 X 600 pixels....If the forum doesn't allow uploads that big, try getting a photobucket account and posting the IMG links....then you can have nice full size pics like this:
