My Mustang Custom tank holds 2.4 gallons and reserve will get me 10 extra miles. But I don't let it get that low anymore LOL. I can tell when I peek inside the tank when I need to look for a gas station. Or another way is to note milage - I can go 70 miles before I have to start looking for gas - still having about 15 miles left in the tank.

200 miles with no piss or leg stretch? That's why I ride alone. I can stop when I want and no one is put out or pissed at my stiff back and pregnant woman bladder trapped in an old mans body!

Don't care how big the tank is I like to stop about 100-150 miles to stretch and grab something to drink.

What kind of fuel petcock is used. Mine has a reserve. That gets switched to when the engine runs out of gas and dies. That lasts eleven miles, but with a couple of fat bob tanks if reserve doesn't make it all one has to do is lean the bike over far enough to get some gas to run from one tank into the one with the pet-**** and keep on trying to make it to gas station.

I sure do love the new 6 gallon tanks. Just today Maddog and I went for a ride but we both only had 1/2 a tank. We put on over a 100 miles and when we finally came back out of the hills and filled up I still had 92 miles before reserve.

Those big tanks never appealed to me, though. I mean looks wise. I really like the sleek appearance of my new tank. It fits the overall proportions of the bike. I've seen bobbers with big (split) tanks and they looked like camels with a big hump in the middle LOL.

A full dresser with all the trimmings looks normal with a big tank and they sure need it, too.

Just thought I'd mention it's our 33rd wedding anniversary today - first day of summer, too. I was 36 and she was 21 when we got married. Ain't love grand! Mac the Wife and I will be together today as she doesn't have to work. We'll be driving to the Conservator's Center in Mebane, N.C. to visit her adopted caracal, an exotic mid sized cat with long, pointy ears. Then we'll just cruise around, eat lunch somewhere and maybe take in a matinee movie. Afterwards, who knows? We're both romantics and anything can happen . . .

I agree Josh, on your bike a 6 gallon tank would look out of proportion and you don't ride 150 plus miles before filling up anyway. Your bike looks good the way it is.
Happy Anniversary to you both hope you have a very enjoyable day. :D

33 years together and still enjoying each other's company? That is worth a like in my book. Wife and I working on 15 years married and counting, over two decades together. How can forever pass in the blink of an eye? Spend it with someone you love.
Congrats and I wish you sunny skies and a happy day.

Sounds like what I'm fighting with 2 and a half gallon fat-bogs. Since I just got the right jets of the S and S Super E Carburettor I'm trying to get the accelerator pump adjusted right because the manual says that improves mileage. I'm having to keep track of how many miles gets ridden and how much gas gets purchased and use some mathematics to figure out the mileage.

Because riding in town and on the highway changes my milage, I have taken to looking in the tank every now and then and I can tell when I'll need to get gas. Don't have to crunch numbers that way . Also, if I have to use reserve, I know I have about 10 miles before I run out. But I don't let it get that low if I can help it.

The coolest actor was Steve McQueen. In the Great Escape he adlib'd in the motorcycle scene when he grabbed the bike. He showed how to check for gas.
