I reckon we've all had cool vehicles back in the day. Coolest one I ever had was a 1950 GMC 3/4 ton pickup. That was in 1980. Four on the floor with granny gear. Remember going to the junkyard one day and getting a differential with a higher gear ratio and it made a huge difference. Had to put the thing in with a floor jack it was so heavy. It was a great work truck.

Just thought I'd tack on this little tidbit. Next week I'm getting some 12" ape hangers to put on my ride. Two reasons: first, it will help keep my back straighter when riding, and second, well, I think it'll look a lot cooler, too LOL. My arms will be straight out . . .

I have buckhorns on now which have an 8" rise, so I'll only be adding 4" to the handlebar height. Of course I'm also getting a longer throttle cable.

Will post some photos when conversion is done.

Some guys I know with bad backs swear by the apes, say they couldn't ride without them....Check local laws about max rise height and or if hands up to shoulder height is law...I asked Mounties here and it's both...10" rise is max but if that 10" rise puts your hands above your shoulders they can nail ya....

They don't seem to care around here. I know a guy with 16" apes and another with 14" and they ride all the time . . .

No laws here, I've seen couple of guys with the real tall ones like to to Tom t shows on his avatars. Looks dumb as heck, 12 thru 16 is real common around here. I've got 12's out in the shed, had them on a couple of different bikes.

Guess I'm in the minority here. I like the lower straight style or clip on type bars as they handle better in the twisty stuff.

The 12" apes I'm getting are made by Biltwell. I'm also changing my risers from the 4 1/2" ones I now have to a pair of 2" ones. A total rise of 14" should be about right.

The Biltwell bars are the only 12" apes I've found that the grip area comes almost straight out instead of dipping back down at the bend, a feature I like.
