I do ride sometimes in Durango cowboy boots, with the rubber soles. I rode in Justin leather soles a little bit, but that hard leather was downright scary on many street surfaces at the stops.

I strongly advise that if you want a safety toed shoe, get it in Kevlar or a similar composite material, and not steel. Personally, I wear Bates Tactical boots Bates Tactical Sport 2263, which go back to my active duty days. They don't wear for years, but they do wear with comfort and can handle most conditions. The composite toe is temperature-neutral and light. Most steel toes are brutal in the cold, weigh a ton more and do not spring back from crushing weight like composite.

I've road horseback in the Bates, too. Just enough heal on 'em to catch the stirrups. ! don't wear spurs, but they'd probably fit fine.

I don't like boots with lace in the front. I have a pair of Red Wing motorcycle boots that have the side zipper and laces in the front. I would rather wear a pull on boot or the ones I ride with.

The nice thing about side-zippered-laced boots is you can adjust them to different thickness of socks. I used my same my boots hunting deer in below zero weather, and hunting others in and ashore around the Gulf in 125f plus (word was 141 was the high that deployment) weather. It also really helps on fitting those chemical foot warmers in.

Thats some good points on the lace front. Man, I thought Vietnam was hot sheesh, but we got the high humidity with heat. Was in Chicago for Enginemen A School and thought the heat and humidity was bad there, didn't hold a candle to Vietnam and the P.I.

Leather soles slip too much, motor or not. My engineer boots came with leather soles and I wore them out in less than 6 months. Had 'em resoled with Vibram lug soles and put in some gel inserts. Now I be styin' and jellin' !

No lace up boots for me - I got an open primary.

CB here is a pic of my boots. Notice the inside cover piece inside the zipper, no water gets in. Got good non slip soles on it to. Can't beat em. Better than cowboy boots.

I find a Boot I like, it is hight enough, then I stick my foot in it and it has a high arch.
Find one that feels good on my foot and its a short boot.
Spent 2 days looking. The Houston Livestock and Rodeo show is on. People are buying Cowboy clothes and boots for a few weeks.
They has the trail ride 1st. Then the cook off after that. Now the rodeo has started.Folks from all over Texas and I don't know where all came to Houston for it.

The stores has a poor selection right now. And I'm lookin for a Cowboy work boot.
    Already got frustrated pretty bad.
And I don't really know what I will get.

    But these might be it

Rode 50 miles to Academy to look at the bates. Light shoes, only about 8" tall.
If I rode west very far and got in the stuff that will stick you on the edge of the desert the boot strings would have all of it in them.
Kinda made me remember why I ride with Cowboy boots
