Tell ya it's one thing I don't miss having to do the gear press shuffle
especially on a TC heck there are 4 gears if you go gear drive.

New 07 and up TC's no bearings in the cam plate and no gears
to press... Now my press is a dust collector LOL

Ya i hear ya and the tools were not cheap . I got all the jigs for the twin cams . And the install dies also . Ive done them without the tools . But its much better to do them and support the cams with the tools the dies are just the perfect size to support the cams .

I took the cams to local shop and they said they didn't want to do the gear swap 'cause the old cam gear didn't have timing marks and if it was done wrong it might blow up the motor and ask me questions about how I installed the cam and bla bla bla.
Basically they were scared to do it.
I took to the guy that built my motor and he swapped the gears out in 10 minutes, no complaints or questions asked.
It just goes to show you the difference between confident people that know what they're doing a shop the does not know what they're doing.
    Funny.

I'm all for "support your local indy" but be careful sometimes your local indy is a D-bag!
Paul I'm sure you will agree, there's a few of them in our area.

That is true...there are shops to stay away from...When I said "Local" I didn't mean the closest one to you!!:D:cool: Find a good one and support him...like maybe the guy that built your engine...:)and swapped your gear...

    That's what I do Lucifer.
I have learned that lesson the hard way. It's better to drive further or spend more money to have it done right than to just go to the closest shop.
I do all the work I can myself. I like to work on them as much as I do riding them.

Rather have a shop tell me, no I'd rather not do that
than just have some noob in the back fu(k up your part...

Just saying, they didn't feel comfortable is not a reflection
against them maybe, it's them telling you they know their limits

    and we all know...

    It's a simple operation to press off/on a gear onto a shaft, isn't it?
    gimme a break.
I understand your point HRK but that's not what they said. Maybe I mis-wrote their response. They said it was the wrong way to do it. I should change my pinion gear and not change out the cam gears.
My guy marked the gear with a scribe from the timing mark on the cam shaft, popped it off and pressed the new one on.
If I had a press I would have done it myself. I would think a "professional" cycle repair shop would be able to do this job. Maybe I'm wrong.?!

I agree changing cam gear is way to go. However the "correct" way is to change pinion to new gear when you change to a cam with new gear

But moving the gear from cam to cam is normally done. Maybe they had some bad experiences with it

Only reason to move gear is to maintain gear relationship and keep
    Gear noise down

    S&S. USA. Wisconsin

Ultima? Supposedly USA but 99% of the stuff the sell is chin lee

Buddies 113 is a POS. He has more bucks in it for repairs than it cost

S&S is only way to fly.
