Hey FLHT, I was able to find the part number of your tuner and get the low down.

Has anyone ever attempted to map their bike on their own using a SERT? I see that the tuner comes with a DVD, how good are these DVD's?

The DVD with the tuner is just info stuff you need to purchase the cable set and the program 32184-08A(May be different for your sportster)
This gives you the ability to tune your stock ecm with the tuner(does not stay on the bike) the tuner is just an interface tool to program your bike! It doesn't have the "maps" like your pc5 and other race tuners and does not self-tune like the higher end models!
With your understanding of air/fuel ratios and some basic comp skills you can tune your bike anyway you want and even have 2 setups - 1 for power & 1 for fuel economy!
I go in on Mon to get 1 on 1 with HD mech and my tuner and dyno will have more specs and info then!!

That is funny!! I think that I may turn that down though. I do not know why, but I am partial to HD stuff. Not only that is sounds like CB has a lot of issues with that TMax so I think that I would stay away from it.

Not in the immediate future anyways. If I didn't have this issue with my truck it would be a lot sooner that I have a different bike. Just starting to do my homework a little closer is all. Like I had said recently, I found a Street Glide for a reasonable price but now I have to wait and see.

As for me I am tired of having to rely on somebody to dyno (sert) my bike in hopes of making it run right. It seems like a crap shoot if the guy on the dyno can or will make it run right. I'm still tossing around the Thunder max.

The dyno time is included with my 95" Big Bore kit and I went with the SERT for exactly this reason! I am going to learn the SERT program and be able to tune when ever I want - this winter plans are to upgrade my 06 tensioners to the newer style and also swap my SE 203 cams to (insert cam #/make here after research) When this is done I will be able to "tune" accordingly - NO dyno needed.
With TM you will have to still trust someone elses map and hope it will selftune properly to your liking, the SERT allows to input new cam ratios and and goes from there.

Cardboard must still be taking his nap so I'll jump in her for him. Correct me if I'm wrong but the TM has a self-tune that, from the sounds of it, would be a big big benefit to tuning it yourself. Does SERT have this????
