Started the motor up last night . . . ran for about a minute or so and conked out. Same thing today. WITW ??

Gas is 3 months old (seafoam added). Getting spark, fuel, compression. Could it be the gas?

    No telling,
Drain the fuel out the tank and the carb. Gas last for about 30 days and the octaine level drops. Hope yer carb don't have the needle valve or jet stopped up.

    Git new 93 octaine gas.
Put STARBRITE STARTRON in the Fuel.

Maybe gas cap isn't venting...try it with the cap off...

If it cranks, try take some spray carb cleaner, or starting fluid and spray it in the carb when it cranks. It don't take much
If it keeps running , then you know you are not gitting enough fuel .
You can narrow it down then.
Hope you don't have any hose that gas eat up.

Maybe the gass flow is not so good. Bike starts then stops when the float bowl gets emptied. Disconect your fuel line at the carb and turn the petcock on to find out. Are you running a gas filter (I hope you are)? Follow CB's suggestions or rig a small funnel and hose straight to the carb is another way.

    Good luck....Aloha...Mike

Thanks for all the suggestions, boys. I will change the gas first, but I prefer to use Seafoam as it has worked very well for me this past year. I will check to see if fuel line is clogged and/or if gas cap isn't venting. My gas tank has a filter inside and I've inspected it with a flashlight and it looks perfectly clean. :D

If after all these things don't work, it wouldn't be a big deal to drop the float cover and check the bowl and the jets.
    Will post results.

Reason I suggested Startron, is its stronger than Seafoam.
    And stronger than Stabil Marine

Sounds like it's running outta gas when the bowl empties. Put in fresh gas first then check the filter, bowl, float, needle and seat.

If the ethanol dried up in the bowl, it could of stuck the needle in one position
That will stick the float too.
Seen the inside liner of the hose get eat up.
Also the screen n the tank.
    Things to check.
Idle jet could be stopped up too.

First just disconnect the fuel line at the carb. Should get a nice, stream of fuel coming out naturally. If you do, problem probablly in the carb.

I am getting gas to the carb. Started it up today and it idled perfectly for several minutes. Started it up again a few hours later and it idled for around 4 minutes. No problem. Goosed it a little and it goosed like it should! I'm thinking it must have fixed itself.

It's seems to be fine, now. Only needed to turn the idle speed down some from where it was before the head job.

Gonna go for the first 1 mile ride as soon as the weather improves, which will be next Tuesday (upper 50s).

When I took the bike apart last October, I drained all the gas out of it, so none has been sitting in the float bowl chamber. Before I put the carb back on the bike, I shook it and I could hear the float moving up and down.

I only put 4500 miles on the motor last year and that's probably not enough milage for the e-gas to gum anything up, or so I've been told.

Anyway, all seems to be okay now . . . :D

Yup, sure is. I've done the heat cycle thing 4 times now at idle, and I think I'm ready for the first short ride. One mile. Oil is circulating good and so far, no leaks anywhere. And of course, no smoke coming out of the exhaust. Hallellujah! I know it's bad to lug the motor during break in - well, it's bad to lug it anytime - but I'll be especially careful during break in.

Tattoo says that since I'm only breaking in new rings, after about 50 miles or so, I can start riding "normally". That's when I'll be checking all the torqued nuts and bolts, too. Cometic claims you don't have to retorque with their gaskets, but I don't think it would hurt to check.

Upper 50s is pretty good for this time of year. Normally the highs are around upper 30s - too chilly for my old bones to ride. No fairing or windshield. It would be nice if it was summer all the time like where you live :D.
