Stokes, you have to be a little crazy to fight off the skunks. Most sane people would just call the Div. of Wildlife and let the man trap em. They take them somewhere up in the hills and drop them off, but they would always come back. My method is permanent and saves taxpayers money.

Also have a real problem with deer. They eat everything in your yard and kill the trees. Div. of Wildlife sez to call them, but they take a week to pick-up the dead ones.

Had one die in my front yard with an arrow sticking in him. The man asks me who shot it, and I said "Heck, nobody knows--that's why he used an arrow. If you hear gunshots, that's me." Foxes or wolverines take the dead skunks. Yuck! I once saw a mountain lion dragging a dear down the road from my house.

Maybe so,but my tale dates back to the early '60's.I doubt there was anything like the "Div of Wildlife".In fact, back in those days,if you were to call anybody about a nuisance animal, especially in the rural areas, they would tell you to deal with it yourself. My grandfather would shoot deer regularly, used to hunt in his backyard,a couple 3 hundred acres of it.He didnt believe in hunting licenses either.Nobody questioned anything you did on your own property, the good old days.We had a skunk problem at my place in upstate NY in recent years.I didnt use gramps' methods,we went for head shots.Only one didnt spray, was able to skin it out and it is still hanging in the bar.The rest of 'em sprayed,no big deal outdoors.Funny thing, once we got rid of the skunks, the racoons appeared.Had never seen a coon when the skunks were around, guess we know who wins when the 2 of them compete for a food supply.

You are right about the racoons appearing. I never made that connection, but I have fun "dealing with" them.

You missed my point about calling D.O.W. though. I don't bother calling them--I'm like your grandpa--crazy. Better yet, we could call Cardboard to chase them off.
