Well after finding what I did with my oil pump, I searched the Web looking for a better oil pump than stock. What I found wasn't reassuring so I contacted Aaron at Hammer Performance. Aaron was able point me in the right direction. Instead of buying some aftermarket pump, he simply said that an oil pump from an 07 or up will work without modification. Have it ordered and on the way. Under $200 too.

Very good. I would have replaced it even if it was good.

You know I will confess, if I found that pump to be good, I would not have replaced it. I would have checked the gerotor clearances as described in the SM and went from there. I didn't replace the oil pump on my Twin Cam with no backlash.

Today I am going to go and pick up the oil lines that I need to replace. Only $22.

Well I have come to point to where I need to make a real decision. Since my engine will be coming out, I am thinking that it is time that I make other changes as well.

The changes that I for sure want to make are these:
    1. Move choke cable to the right side of the bike.
    2. Replace motor mount with something more pleasing to the eye.
    3. Eliminate the VOES in favor of using a MAP sensor.

The first two are the easiest to do but the third will be a pain in the ass. In order for me to do this, I will have to change the crank shaft. This is not cheap to do and will possibly change other aspects of the build. A lot of decisions from this point on.

question is what will you gain making the change to
    map relative to cost

This what I need to find out. As of now, I am assuming that I will have to change the crank anyway. So far it sounds like it would be way too expensive because there will be the need for even more case work.

right, Unless you are gaining some kind of serious advantage
it makes no sense, and for the sake of making the change I'd say
    it doesn't.

Not sure why you'd need to change flywheels did that clip get to
    yours in some nasty way?

I am basing this off of what hammer performance has alluded to that the MAP SENSOR is better than the VOES. Aaron didn't really specify why though.

Not sure about the crank just yet.

No I'd say if your results in power gain and tuning are just a small improvement put the grand into something else

You are basing this off the assumption that I won't need a new crank. If my crank turns out to be good, then I most likely won't go this route. However I am assuming that a new crank will be needed. My cases will have to be fitted for the upgraded crank anyways. I haven't investigated just yet on additional cost for the crank trigger boss as of yet.

no I"m basing it on replacing a crank for the purpose of going from voes to map which is what you stated the reason would be for the swap, regardless of the issues you're having.

So are the changes to a MAP sensor and crank sensor pickup a prelude to a fuel injection swap? Or just for fun/

No. I am investigating to conversion over to a MAP based system because I think that it is better system than a VOES system. Looks also played a role at first but not a factor anymore. Go back about 12 posts to where I started talking about it. Easier to understand there.

I think your results will depend more on the tuner than the system

If you have to change the flywheels then upgrade because it's really not
an additional big expense, other than having to change the voes out, wiring, any tuning devices for the ignition, possible new ignition etc

voes is just an on off vacum switch . map sensor is a manifold pressure sensor. the difference would be a gradual slope in the timing map . voes would be retard at idle full advance of idle. the difference would not be any better one way or the other in my opinion . big motors with big cams intake and carbs like alot of advance all at once just of idle anyway . and less timing at wide open so the voes will be just fine no need to justify the purchase of the other crank if its not needed. jmho

And this why I think that the MAP SENSOR is the better one of the two. I have looked into briefly the option on an adjustable VOES but I just don't know well enough if those are the right answer. I am worried that once it is set that the performane will have to be either set for either the low end or the top end, not able to find the middle ground.

I'm no expert at all, (read my posts and that is figured out pretty quick!), but the MAP sensor seems to benefit the precise fuel metering of a fuel injection setup better than a carb equipped bike, so I'm not sure if any additional expense would be worth it in that area. Now a fuel injected hi power build on an older solid mounted Sporty? That would likely be pretty cool! JMO.
Of course, I'm the guy who mentioned going back to stock for cost savings so what the heck do I know anyway!LMAO.
