Guess you didn't git into the Duo Glides huh..........

Just liked playin with the baby harley's. They were not that big of a bike back then.

I rode bikes back in the 60's. And to me the Duo Glide was a hell of a machine.
    Know I had a 1964 Duo Glide
It was the Panhead years. One hell of a bike.

Chucktx has a 1965 Electra Glide, That was the year it changed to electric start.
Back during the years when you had to crank bikes the Old Way that is where the finger tip gloves come into play so you could adjust the cold idle and all with your fingers.

They were affectionately known as "Garbage Barges" too.

I swore I'd never own one. I've owned 3 and my only regrets is not getting one sooner. As old cardboard says baggers are second to none for the open road.

I too, said I'd never have a big fat bagger (until I rode one!). I never owned a Sporty either, but felt that the FXR or newer Dynas were about as perfect a bike as I'd ever want. The FXR was only about 70 lbs heavier than a Sporty, but handled better and rode way better.

I think its a choronological age deal. I think most die hard HD riders in their late teens thru early 30's if able would love a radically trimmed down stroked chopper/hardtail. It looks way cool, is the sh*t and don't mind paying the price of antiquated technology to look cool, I'm just saying. Not to mention they can still relatively be had for cheap money if you're even remotely handy. Yeah they make them for a bizzilion dollars and people who buy those instead of making them are just stupid...or wealthy which is usually the same thing in my opinion. Or a Sportster because they are the low end of the HD money chart and most younguns have their hands full with a new Sportster, used being more monetarily managable.

Then as the young die hard HD rider grows and matures, starts to make better money, I think at some point in their lives paying the price to look cool isn't worth it. They buy a more refined, comfortable and technologically advanced.

Now Joshbob is an exception, he has his own story and not mine to tell.

I was that young diehard HD rider and I built my own dream chpper and rode it for near 25 years. PArtly because I had a family and money was tight.

And yeah as I got older and money got better at age 50 years old I bought my first Ultra...used, a couple years old but awsome. I'm a little short for a bagger but it has all the creature comforts that my spouse deserves. I currently updated went al out and got my current 2012 Ultra. Love abso;lutely everything about it, no comnplaints.

Me, personally I'd love a Fat Boy low, especially that 110 Anni one, its sweeeeeeet but well short of passenger amenities!

My explanation is prejudiced and ethnocentric but hey, this is a forum, we share thoughts,no?
