Can't say I ever liked or wanted a hardtail chopper. Bobber, yes. I even liked the cafe racer look. What I really like is seeing the solid mass of the Big Twin motor wrapped around a lean frame with muscular proportions. A Fatboy comes darn close to that, or a V-Rod, but I can't have them all.

Bobber,Hardtail,Sportster..they're are all trimmed down versions and potential speed machines that look really good if done even remotely right. And usually abscent of all but the barest of rider/passenger accomadations, Pretty much, fender, sissy bar and P pad, sometimes not even that.

I been a multi bike owner since 1986 and its a PITA. Got it down to my '12 and my '83FL. Only keeping the '83 because I bought it the month and year my son was born and while 29 years he's say get rid of it , no offense, he doesn't want it...takes after his mother......

I like the land-lines and answering machine just fine. Nothing is so important as to stop me while riding.

I'm not agin technology, in fact just started using a GPS and find it an excellent resource, might even get one on my bike. Its a little intimidating and the whole teach a old dog new tricks deal. Computers are every where and in every thing.

I think the last Dyna I rode was a 103 inch Wide glide at Sturgis in '11, nice. I rode the Super glide custom..nice bike as well. I owned a Evo Dyna built up..89 inch...it was fast but it was not as "planted" as the FXR. I'd have to ride the two bikes back to back. but that would be pretty hard to do right now. all I can relate is how you can throw the FXR around and get really stupid with it and it stuck where you pointed it. My Dyna didn't. The salesman at the Harley shop also had a FXR about the same time I did..his bike was a rocket. He got a 2003 Dyna sport simliar to his FXR..both dual disc sport models. He built the motor up like his FXR..not quite as wild and although the Dyna was good, he preferred the FXR...smoother.
I'll give the Fatbob a whirl. THe new Sportsters are a fun bike.

Heck back in the day I thought my 750 Honda CB was a big bike and rode it everywhere. Now I know better and glad to be on the bigger Harley.

H-D changed the Dyna frame, shocks, tranny, and whole front end in '06 when they put in the 96 motor. Big handling improvements were recorded in lap speeds over previous year.

Fat Bobs now come with the 103 motor, but the fat wheels/tires compromise handling a bit compared to a SuperGlide. A more accurate back-to-back comparo would be with a SuperGlide.

After riding a Honda 450 twin maybe 40 years ago, I couldn't get over how powerful that bike was. It easily blew past a 650 Triumph.

The 3cyl. 2 stroke bikes were even more unbelievable.

I disagree with the fat wheels on the Fatbob taking away the handling.
I've had the Fatbob on curves and all. They don't track grooves in the road and handle really good.
    Rent one for a Day.

I have ridden the Fatbob in the 96cu, 103cu and the 110cu.

You're right, a super glide would be a better apples to apples comparo. The Dyna has come a long way. There's a good chance that it is a better all around bike now...motor, suspension. Some of us old guys remember all the good stuff about the bike [FXR] smoothness, handling, comfort and we forget about the stuff that drove us nuts. The battery was right next to the oil tank and they didn't last long and if you didn't keep on top of it the charging system would fail, part by part. Base gasket would leak after a while, but I still love the lines of the bike to this day.
