    Tom, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. What you think is ugly others may think is beautiful. I ride a Ultra and am damm proud of it and think its a better ride than the SG. All the SG is, is a stripped down version of the EG.

    Thanks Tom for the input. I too really like the looks of the Street Glide, but my plans will be to take an EGC and strip down the basic trim and do some of my own customizing to give it the look of a SG that easily assumes tour mode for two. Plus it will save me a lot of $$ doing it that way. If I went with the SG I'd have to invest more in the tour pack, a seat worthy of long miles, and a lightbar kit (I like the 3 blinding light look :cool: )

    DKIN21: I agree with you as I've riden RK's and they are real nice, in fact I wish I had bought one instead of my current Heritage... but I can't compain as it has been good to me. However the tour pack w/backrest is a high priority since we are planning some heavy miles.

    Ken, I understand your reasoning, if you want the tour pack its definitely worth buying the EGC.
    FLHTbiker, Didnt mean to ruffle feathers, I did say "in my opinion", luckily we dont all like the same model, it would be boring. The stripped version is my choice as the Ultra is yours. I like riding the Ultra, I prefer the handling of the SG, but for looks mine is SG. Enjoy your Ultra.

    Cowboy, nope, haven't picked one up yet. My local dealer doesn't have any in stock right now. :(

    FLHTbiker: When I was looking over the different models at the dealership I noticed that the Ultra's saddle and bags sat lower than the SG and standard EG that were beside it. Is that just how the side cases are mounted or is the Ultra actually lower?

    Also wondering from anyone who has the Street Glide or those same mirrors, does anyone have a problem with them being too close to the grips (visibility wise). Those same mirrors are available as an accessory for the E-Glide but I wasn't sure if I'd be staring at a my elbows :p

    Ken the bikes should be the same frame and height. The seats may be cut different which can give a different height to the seat. The mirrors on those bikes are set to close in. When your riding sometimes it feels like your trying to move your shoulders to see around. You can put longer stemmed mirrors on or have them throw them in to cement the deal.

    ken I had the long stem mirrors on my E glide , I just replaced them with the short stem tear drop style , I'am about 5'10 @ 180 I can see better with the short stem ,it took a couple of setting to get them right , but no more then any other new mirror set up , My brother is built like me , & he did the same on his ultra , That's where I got the idea from , I rode his bike a few block's & notice the difference right off the bat

    I like my sg mirriors and they are coming out with some "custom" stuff to decorate with the only problem is the height of them compared to stems but you get used to that. no clearance problems just limited customization right now.

    Just had the same decision to make

    I just traded my '04 Road King Custom following a long ride to Sturgis and back with my wife. She really liked the look of my RKC, but it wasn't comfortable enough for the long ride.

    My preference was a low, sleek bike; so I checked out the Street Glide knowing I could get a detachable tour-pak with the nice seat back. But then I would need to purchase the Sundowner (or other, more comfortable seat) for long trips.

    The Street Glide is only $200 less than an Electra Glide Classic, which already has the tour-pak and good seat. The cost for adding these items to the Street Glide is more than $2,000, considering the tour-pak, detachable hardware and seat.

    So I went with an '08 Classic... Until the dealer showed me a new '07 Ultra with all the trimmings. Snapped it up pronto because he gave me a great deal.

    The bottom line is, even with detachable tour-pak, you're likely not to take the thing off every time you want to tool around town. The bike simply does not ride "bigger" than a Street Glide (or my RKC, for that matter). It's a pain to store so it doesn't get damaged, too.

    One other thing: I took off the tall clear windshield and replaced it with the 6-1/2" smoked wind deflector. Aside from the bike not being lowered 1", it looks like a Street Glide with a tour-pak!!

    Get the Classic or an Ultra. You'll never look back, and your passenger will love you for it.

    Street glide

    I have a 2007 Street glide. I have put 11,000 miles on it in 10 months and that was trough winter. I really love the bike but have made some major changes for my own comfort. First of all you can buy the tour pak and a quick release kit to mount it from Harley. To get everything including a rack your looking at around $1200. Get it fro Chicago Harley and save 20% and tax. I could not get used to the running boards and my legs were always cramped. I took off the Highway bar and installed a set of Accutronic 2" extended forward controls. They really cleaned up the bike and man are they comfortable. I got the folding peg option so I could replace the pegs with Kuryakin Dually iso pegs with Sturrips. I have this set up on my low rider and have ridden to Sturgis 3 times with no problems. Now the next thing is the factory seat sucks! I put on a corbin dual tour seat which was a huge improvement. I am pretty happy at this point but I am concidering a set of the short reach bars from Harley so I can set more straight up. I ride with Ape hangers level with my shoulders on all my other bikes and find it to be the best 600 mile a day position.

    If I had it to do over again I would still buy the Street glide for the custom look and long rear fender. Hope this helps a little good luck!
