a qt of oil every 1000k is not normal......if it is you need that in writing, from the moco. there should be something in the service manual that tells what normal oil consumption is................:)

As a rule, I only use (to quote Rachel Ray) EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) in the engine and gearbox. Not only does it smell nice, but you can pull over and use it as a dipping oil for your pane Italia...oh wait, that is for the Italian scooter people...:roflmao:

    Oils again

Couple years ago broke my 07 FLSTC in on reg HD oil, at the 1k service they said to put syn3 in all three to help cool. OK...
After doing stage 1 at the 1k service my heat did drop around 20*'s on average. Now run around 215 on road and 220-235 in town

Then at the 5K service, the dealers here in IND said (I talked to 3 of them) said that Harley is now telling them to install sny3 in the motor for heat protection but use Formula + in the tranny and primary. OK did that to.

It is running about the same temp with Formula + in it as SYN3, mostly I think because SYN3 is still being used in motor.

What is better is the shifting, dont clunk as much as it used to, and neutral is a lot easier to find. The 5th gear whine was never an issue with mine and I have to listen for it to hear it, but I dont think it helped the whine much with the + oil in the tranny...

Overall I will Keep this oil set up for now....

Somewhat off topic. Any problems with Fram oil filters? Thats the only other choice that I know of. I use Fram for everything else but everyone I talk to frowns on Fram.

My 07Screamin Eagle came with SYN3, at 1,000 mile service changed it to HD Dino oil for the next 3 oil changes then went to Mobil 1 syn oil in all three holes, noise in motor and tranny went away and to my surprise no more clunking in tranny. also seems to have cooled it down. Biggest reason i went with Mobil 1 is i ran it in a LT1 350 Vette i had with no problems and its easier to find than the Amsoil.

I too run Moble 1 in every thing I own for over 15 years and no motor problems at all...including 2003 Dodge truck Hemi since it was new 100000 miles never been in the shop....it has syn. in tranny too and hauls 10000 lb camper around when we camp....no tranny problems....When my warrenty runs out of the Streetglide it will get Moble 1 in all three holes too.
