That's why I run Redline Shock Proof gear oil in our HD trans. Quieter and smoother shifting.

Hard to believe your 2009 tranny blew at only 46K miles. I just hit 80,000 with my 2008 and she's running sweet. But I have been using 75 weight Mobile 1 Synthetic since the first 1,000 mile service. What kind of riding are ya doing Charlie?

Went for our "5 Mountain Passes" ride today. Temp was only 40 when we left town at 8 AM and heavy overcast.

Temp went down the higher we rode, and started raining after 30 miles. So we only did 2 mtn. passes and headed back home after being wet for 3 hours. Bike looks like a disaster, and didn't take any pics......sorry.

Good plan about the walls. I wonder why some of you guys don't use HD 85/145 gear oil? Is the other stuff really that much better?

Harley gear oil will work. I just like the way Redline allows the trans to shift so smooth and a lot easier to find neutral.

Git a SE tranny and stick in it. Then everything is New and better.
They changed the tranny in 10 man. If you change it you might needto change the sprocket in yer primary too.

If you had a softail Heritage I got a buddy that bought a Baker 7 speed, wasn't happy with the gearing in it.
Bought a SE tranny and had it put in.

I've rode Harleys since the 70's and they have always clunked when you put them in gear........
Go ride a brand new one and listen to it when you shift.
Tell the mechanic that it clunks going into gear.......

Well CB, my clunkin has gotten a lot less noticeable UP-SHIFTING since I put Belray Gear Saver Red in it. I got riding buds that have noticed and asked me what I did to reduce the clunk. Down shifting it still clunks. I have the 5 speed.

Redline shock proof gear oil (yep its pink or red) is good sheet, like I said before been using is for years and many many miles. Would never run 20-50 oil in the trans. :)

Belray gear oil is probably a good tranny oil to, just never used that one.

American Iron had a recommendation on the Belray in one of their tech articles. Local HD dealers carry it too. Never heard of Redline but I found it on line. Maybe I'll give it a try. CB, I didn't go to the Belray to try to eliminate the clunk, it just happened to get better when I got rid of the HD 20-50 Synthetic (as well as gear noises).

You'd need good syncronisers to slow down clunk

The clunk on my bike got better when I put the Red line gear oil in. My wifes trike was a real bear to get into neutral and really clunked hard. I started putting the Red line shock proof gear oil in and wow what a difference. Shifts way smoother now. Put some on your finger and you'll see how slick that stuff is. Top builder here says when he has opened a tranny to add something he sees no wear on them.

70/90 Shock proof gear oil. To cold in the winter for the heavy. Down south where its 100 all the time the heavy might be good.

So that's the "Superlight 75-90" I'm surprised. The HD manual says the heavier grade like the "Lightweight 75-140"
