Of course, I discover more wrong with this ol' motor the deeper I go into it. A complete motor overhaul seems to be the only way to correct all the problems I've encountered so far. I'm gradually collecting the major parts needed.

Going to meet up with Tattoo and see what needs to be done and get some kind of ballpark estimate how much it will cost. :banghead:

And good luck finding parts. On my 1983 this piece in the clutch basket that wore, I had to find a competent welder to weld a new piece in its place as no one no where had the new part.

Pretty expensive shovel motor, anyway. Paid $4500 for the motor. I stopped counting how much I've put in it since then. I was one of the unfortunate people who bought a "rebuilt" motor from Rob's Used Harley Parts. By the time I got the motor running, the 6 month warranty had run out. When I complained of all the problems I had with it, I was told that they had a guy named "Buster" at the time who did halfassed work on Rob's motors, and that if I sent the motor back, I would have to pay for half of the repairs and pay shipping, too. I made a list of the things that were wrong with it and there were over 20 things I had to fix myself, starting with all new gaskets and seals, carb, manifold, oil pump, piston rings, and everything in the heads had to be replaced and I mean everything. The list goes on. Then I found out that the "rebuilt"4-speed I bought from him (another $1300) wouldn't even shift and needed new bushings, kicker crank, seals, etc. Only after several heated e-mails was I able to send it back and get it repaired.

If Rob wants to take issue at what I'm saying here, I can back up, with receipts, everything I had to do to this motor that should have been done by him.

That's Bullshirt! Rob should have backed everything 100%. You were not responsible for Rob hiring a butcher, Rob was. I hope Rob gets everything he's got coming to him.

And that is why I stay away from Indys.

I know not al Indys are bad and all MOCO's are good. Just up here I've not had good luck with Indys. Lots of sh*t story's about Indy attitude and bad service. I think it's great and lucky you got a good Indy. I imagine if I lived down there I'd go to woods performancecycle in Goldsboro. Been knowing him 25-30 years

    Is robs fron Virginia?

Ordered my pistons/rings/wrist pins/"C" clips today. I am looking for someone who can bore my cylinders .030" over. Anyone out there have any recommendations?

If shipping is in the budget, I'd consider sending the jugs, pistons and rings to Kirby to have the pistons fitted to the bore or vise- versa and ring gap set.
Larry's Motorcycle and Machine and Hillside Cycle are 2 more that are well known with excellent reputations
