One thing for certain with a Glock, parts are available everywhere and lots o used ones out there. Personally I don't like Glock as they feel like I'm holding a 2X4 in my hand. XD line feels much better. Glocks are well made and accurate, however for a carry gun I myself like a thumb safety.

Yeah I"m not a big GLocker but I have a model 29 in 10MM carry
for on the bike, what I like

    1) It's 10mm
    2) If I drop it, it's a glock so what
    3) its 10mm
    4) it goes bang
    5) did I mention, it's 10mm
6)Ghost Trigger connector smoothed out pull
    5) oh yeah It's 10MM

JB would do well to pick up a used glock 19 for home and range
and a G26 for carry, BTW the 17 is the FS glock, the 19 is the compact

If he really wants to have a 45 then get a G30 or G36 for carry
and a G21 for range/home defense, for under a grand he could have
    both...

From what I was picking up from what JB was saying he likes the 45 cal and was concerned about lack of safeties on some pistols. He may come on here and say something totally different, yea know him.

my take on safety is that it can be as much a help as a hindrance,
you need to remember to set it so you don't pull the trigger on an SA like
a 1911 if you carry condition 1 or cocked and locked which is the way you
    should carry.

If you don't you risk having a carry ready to fire with a light trigger.
if you do put the safety on, now you have one more thing to put into
your motion to remember to unlatch the safety, and in a fight stuff
moves quick, while you unlock the safety the bad guy pulls the trigger
on a glock, you better be bringing it up and clicking it off on the way
    up and that takes practice.

a DAO gun like glock, walther ppq, sig's p series, are loaded, there is a
round in the chamber but it's not going to fire until you pull back the trigger, you don't need that extra safety, it's in the way, JMO...

Even though I carry a P938 with a safety, go figure...

I won't buy a Glock because those just do not sit in my hand well and they are a polymer gun. Just the criteria I have set. I want a gun for home defense, and carry. I am not really interested in a range only gun.

FLHT is right, I am more interested in a .45. My friend offered the p89DAO.I would consider the p89DAO but it isn't likely that I will buy it. If I did buy it it would be to turn around and sell it but it seems that he wants too much for it and I told him that it had some things against it. Those things are that it is not a 45 and that there aren't any external or manual safeties that can be set. I have a lot of kids in my home and I need to be highly careful of what I bring into my home.

My friend and I are going out to the range on Wend. and he is bringing his Baby Eagle that I WANT so I can see how that gun performs. The thing is, I won't buy that gun from him either as he wants WAY TOO MUCH FOR IT, as he has told me that he doesn't really want to sell his, but I know where there is another one just like it available. I get to test the goods before I buy so I will do that. The Baby Eagle would be my home defense gun. My carry piece will be a Springfield 1911 Champion or a Bersa Thunder 45. Of course I will take whatever gun I buy first out to the range. To me that is the only way one can truly become comfortable with their gun. But the guns will not live there either.

I am not interested in "Quantity," Only Quality as I define it. I want an all metal gun, a 45 is preferred and external safeties are a MUST!

That Springfield is a really nice gun but remember its 37 ounces so not a light weight firearm for concealed carry, especially in the hot summer months. But, each to their own. I have a really nice Sig compact 3 inch 1911 45 cal but not great for summer carry. I actually much prefer a Polymer pistol for carry due to weight issues. The new XDS Springfield 45 is a good carry gun but yes, it's Polymer.

I wear Blue jeans all the time. And got blue jean shorts.
It fits very well between my shorts and my belt inside my bluejeans.
I forgit its even there. I don't do little pistols.
Was at a buddys house eating Jambalaya saturday, he brought his Ruger 22 pocket pistol, his Ruger 380 and his ruger 9mm out.
I couldn't even git the thumb safety off the 9mm. You got to like push back and Pull down on it.I would already be shot before I could even git the safety off.
I like a pistol that fits in my hand.

Check out the two below, full metal, meets that requirement
one is a 1911 compact carry, both FLHT and I have this gun, it's a thin
full metal 1911 carry very accurate, night sights and can be had with CT laser.

the other is Sigs P220 carry, the smaller version of the P220 45, it's advantage is
it's battle proven, thin (not real thin it's a 45) and has DA/SA, meaning the gun
is loaded, a round put into the chamber and then the decocker is pressed lowering the hammer. From that point it's harness and carry, no safety to turn off. First pull is DA long smooth about 10 pounds, that's the safety you can't just turn off a safety and have a 4 pound trigger that's easy to press.
Once you fire the first DA round it goes SA for every shot after at 4.4 pounds, same as a 1911. Advantage, no safety, full DA pull and round in the barrel..

    One is a 1911 Sig C3

    Other is P220 Carry

Wen spring hits here the Douglas Fir trees which are native to the Pacific Northwest put out a yellow pollen. My poor Blue Dodge pickup turns yellow and the stuff is like cement when it dries. Pretty trees though but what a mess they can be.

Yea Johnny really needs to worry about Hot summer months on the pistol he carries.
I wouldn't suggest a Glock to a first time pistol carry. I did carry one for 19 yrs and my Ol carries one. But I spent a lot of time with her on it.
The XDm compact is a pistol that you simply grow into.
Its got the glock safety and the 1911 safety.
I really like the 45 model. It weights more, but the power behind the weight.
    One hit and one knockdown.
