Ya know i'm not a glocker
in fact more of an anti-glocker

but everyone one day will have owned
a glock.. you'll do it, and you'll shoot it.

    Good things about glocks

    1) If you drop it you don't care, drop that $1000 1911 and you get pissed
    2) They always go bang
    3) they are lighter, simple, easy to work on
    4) they are not expensive
    5) Anti-Polymer people just have not gotten the word, nothing wrong with it
cops carry millions of Glocks, M&P's XD/s etc everyone of them works.

Yeah I'm a metal gun guy, Sigs, 1911's, revolvers

But I have a Glock 29 in 10mm and I might buy another
and a Walther PPQ both striker fired, both very accurate
    and both are light...

JB, you still haven't commented on my Sig suggestion.

Heres one for you, Get a Sig P239 in 357Sig if you want a mans gun.

yep and that is the beauty of a glock
or a kel tec or any similar firearm

It's a tool, better to carry something
you won't be upset about screwing up
    than a $4000 Les Baer 1911

Plus remember this, if you DO get involved
in some altercation where you have to
use your fire arm you ain't getting it back
    for a looooong time.

You really don't want to loose a $1000 gun
do you.. Give um the glock...

In fact there are a lot of places you can buy used
    LEO return glocks cheap,

some folks do, a hand built custom 1911 by Les Baer will set you back
for a little less you can get a Nighthawk Custom, Ed Brown or any number of top end
1911's the fit and finish is light years beyond assembly line guns.

If you get to a LGS with one of them get them to let you fondle it, feel
the trigger the fit of the slide to the frame is hand fitted, no slop...

HRK, I carry in my motorcycle vest in a gun pocket on the left side. I just don't like a loaded firearm with no safety or thumb safety pointing at my body. It just kind of bugs me. I know the long trigger pull is your safety on a Glock and others like them. All my XD models have at least a grip safety, my Shield has a small thumb safety which works very easy. My small 45 1911 sig even has a thumb safety. For me I'm just not comfortable with a hand gun without any safety.

All that is fine, and I understand what you both are saying
here is my take, Glocks are carried every day by more people
than you can imagine worldwide, Sigs are carried every day as
well by millions, none have the extra safety switch, the safety is internal
on a glock the trigger has a second safety lever, unless your finger is on it
the glock won't fire, on the sig, it's a double action pull, they have hammers
not striker pins like the glocks.

The hammer is recessed into the slide, you are not going to snag it like
the hammer on a 1911. Very safe, very good to carry, law enforcement
carries glocks and sigs among others, military carries the Sig, namely the
Navy seals, those guns are safe and ready.

they are not going to fire themselves because they don't have another switch
but that is both your preference and that's what you should carry, I suggest that
you find a range that lets you draw and fire, or dry fire with a draw at home
getting the move to flip off the switch before engaging, muscle memory is key.

JB that sig is a full metal gun, smaller, lighter, and great to carry, check the ballistics
on the 357sig round, it's basically an auto version of the 357 Magnum. A fantastic round with close to 2000 fps and 500+ hit power. It will go though two car doors the perps easy. Texas police wanted a round like the magnum they were replacing.

Easily a man stopper with more hit than a 45..

That's all fine and dandy HRK I have a couple all metal guns but I'm talking about light weight striker fired guns. That's the reason I carry my M&P Shield' it has a thumb safety on it. My SR9C Ruger does as well.

Yeah I understand, not questioning anyones choice,
just food for thought about different ways each
    manuf makes the fire arm.

A lot of people won't get a shield because of the
    safety, just a preference.

I was so jacked up to go shoot some guns and the guy calls and says that he can't make it. Oh well, I guess I will just havce to go and buy what it is that I "think" I want without getting to shoot it first. I hate that when that happens... :banghead::banghead:

Hopefully you'll have done enough research and picked up some valuable info from here and other forums to have a good idea what you want. Sometimes indoor ranges have pistols for rent so you can try out different ones.

There is an indoor range that I could go to but I did not happen to see the guns that I want to test fire. Not sure what their rules are as far as new guns are concerned as far as firing them... :D
