It will last just fine. I know cuz I played a part in the Motor Co's extensive tests on durability and longevity. Believe me, no other mfr. does this like H-D.

Nothing made by man is totally bullet-proof, but a Harley can handle the hard use if you just keep it serviced. That bike will out-live us all.

Those higher speeds without a fairing & windshield and the wind will try tearing you off the bike no matter how much you crouch. Besides, who wants to ride like that all the time? Might as well get a crotch rocket. 65 -70 MPH is exciting enough for this old man. Those cagers don't like how "slow" I'm going, they can go around me!

Josh, ya need a windshield. I've got a quick-detach windshield on my Dyna, but I never take it off. It doesn't take away any of the fun, just the bugs, wind, and rocks in your face. And you're no old man. Heck, I'm older than you and I don't consider me old. My best riding buddy is 82, and he amazes me.

Something happens to me when I get on a lonely stretch of road that has no traffic: I can't help but wring it out. No, I don't need or want a crotch rocket, but I do need about 100 hp.

Cool . . . yeah, I suppose once in a while I'm gonna want to speed the ol' thang up. I have to get used to riding again first. No windshield for me. I like the wind and will risk the bugs and all the rest.
Did I mention I'm getting a pair of prescription goggles from OpticsPlanet? Should be here in a couple weeks. The lenses are photo grey transitions. This will enable me to use either helmet I have without shields. The shield I have on the 3/4 helmet doesn't keep the wind off my eyes at higher speeds.

In east texas I can clean up my bike and go for a short ride.
Got bugs right now all over my windshield , fairing. headlight, fork legs, mirrows and all on my EG
Before I got a Bagger they would be all over my glasses, Vest. and all over the bike.
And I would be pickin they out of my eyes and teeth from where they smashed all over me.
And it ain't even Love Bug Season yet.

We got bugs all year long, even in the winter.
Luv Bugs two times a year.
I come home and use the pressure washer to clean them off the bike every now and then
I probably hold the record for the most washed bikes to keep the bugs off it.:banghead:

Try Turtlewax bug & tar remover or one of the Instant detailer products, Work great & faster than washing whole bike

In the summertime when the bugs are out in force I'll grab the wife's little water spray bottle she uses on her hair. Best, easiest and cheapest way to clean em off. Works great:)

We don't have bugs here, but when I take longer rides of 350 or more miles, I get all kinds of junk (road oil, dead critter stuff, and mystery goo) on the front of bike, but at least it's not on my face. Josh, you may change your mind come summer-time.

I need a pressure washer to get this gunk off, and yes, your right CB....stuff stuck to my jacket and pants too.

Wish there was a product that would make the junk come off easier, as I don't like to use the pressure washer so much.

The pressure washer doesn't scratch it, but probably isn't good for the paint and chrome. I wax it after every time I wash it (at least once a week) and use Meguires Quick Detail in between washes.

Doesn't someone make a product that sprays-on the front-end to protect it while riding, then just wash it off?

    use dryer sheets.

Wet the front of the bike,
then take a wet dryer sheet (like bounce only get generic)
and lightly rub over the bugs and grit and such.

You can do paint, windshields, chrome and the
chemicals in the sheets soften the bugs (just like
they do your fabrics in the dryer) Rinse, repeat if necessary
best crap remover made, cheap and you can carry them
    in the bags on trips.

Also, gives bike that "nice irish fresh summer smell"

There are some bonding spray waxes you can get
to coat the front end before you go on a trip, best bet
is clean, polish, wax with a very good wax, get a good coat
    and that should help...

I rub dryer sheets on my arms and neck when the mosquitos are biting. Keeps em away better than any repellant. Maybe they keep bugs from getting close to the bike too?

After a long ride, all the gunk stuck to the motor and pipes gets vulcanized to it from the heat and is hard to remove. Need something that will make gunk slide off easier.

As long as you don't get it in the electrical switch and air breather.
    It ain't gonna hurt anything.
It cleans the bugs off and gits the road grim and grease off it.
Then I wash it and use a 4hp Master Blaster motorcycle dryer I got from JP cycles.
Then use McGuires Ultimate was and wax it.

Guess with us being in the piney woods of east Texas and cattle everywhere
We just got too many bugs.
You can go 100 miles west and they dissapear.
