Yep, it is time that I take the top end of Sportster apart and start investigating what the frigging noise is that just won't go away. The more I hear it (and it get worse and more frequent) the more I start to gb I nm that I am having issues in the front cylinder. It kind of sounds like valve float or a guide starting to g I bad. GRRRR!

valve float the motor would fall flat on its face like you lost 50 hp if it was a guide going bad you would be using oil like mad . and smoking like a mfr! valve seat it would be missing and again lost alot of power all of these would be constant noise and loud other than the guide . i would say its time to post a video so we can here this noise and help with the diagnosis . before you tear the sob apart and then i have to fly to minesooota and kick my good friend in the balls

There us something wrong. Trust me on this. I would post a video but it doesn't do it until warm and at 55mph. Would be difficult to hear.

And it should have been nice out. That was weird weather for that late in April. Until it happened again this year.

I remember the time I thought I had something going wrong with the top end of my rear cylinder. Sounded like a valve or something in the rocker box. Turned out to be a broken rear tab on the gas tank rattling against the backbone of the frame :banghead.

Took me at least a week to find it LOL. Listen to it with a stethoscope - it might help to pinpoint where the trouble is.

1 cant grow hair any more.lol 2 I heard that story before about it being nice this time of the year. 3 take a small rubber or leather mallet and tap around the frame work of the bike including all attachments and accessories. Of course stay off the paint work .but you knew that . Include fork tress and bars . Harmonics make shit sound like engine noise.

Yes, but a noise in the motor somewhere that no one else can hear is also a good excuse to take it to the next level. To get rid of the noise I had to port the heads, get a bigger cam,...

generally you find the loose nut is behind the bars... while riding...

Don't you have a shop you trust for tuning and such that did a lot
of the work on the RG?

I'd take it there and have them listen before I pulled the engine apart
    get a professional diagnosis.

Im just busting your chops if you say its making noise and you hear it after it warm then something is expanding and rattling . whens the last time you adjusted the valves maybe you have a push rod thats a little worn and as it gets hot clearence is being created at the rocker at higher rpms its hard for the lifter to take up slack check them

Excuse my low tech self for buttin' in, but I think I'd do what HRK recommends and take it to the shop. They have the diagnostic equipment and should be able to find out what's causing the problem.
