Derek hasn't wrenched on my Sportster for about three years except changing the slide out on my carb right before I went to Colorado. I did ask him to ride it to help diagnose at one point and he couldn't hear it. The noise is there, although not as bad then as it is now.

Just changed oil on the Sportster and ran a magnet through the oil. Nothing stuck. Going to take it out for a ride. Let you know.

You have adjustable push rods in the Sporty??...If you're getting a ticking at 5500 after it's warm I'd be looking at push rod adjustment or lifter bleeding down....Or something loose and vibration at 5500 makes it noisy...
You never said what kind of noise....That might help:)

No adjustable pushrods. SE Perfect Fit. The noise sounds like pinging but I have been through that carb twice. Nothing is loose!

I will be back shortly to tell you more.

Things that make noise under load. Trans drive sprokets rear wheel drive sprokets loose or broken spokes .cracked swing arm were axel pinch bolts go in .going from back to front. Lifter roller .rockers and support plate hair line crack . Comp nut bottoms out before clamping and false torque is created.hair line crack at splines on the rotor .piston slop . Go from the back work your way foward. Or put it on the dyno drum recreate the same noise while your indy hears it.

You were saying to put a mechanical pressure gauge to test oil pressure at sending unit?

Well one thing that im crazy about is miss diagnosis that shit just dont jive with me .throwing parts at a problem is a no no at my shop . So put that bitxh on the drum duplicate the process. And get a good diagnosis. Andd I he dont hear it and you do put his ass on the bike find out what area the noise is coming from video that bitch while its on the drum I fix that shit via skype.f it give him a few dollars for the time on the drum .this shits getting old .cant see these bike wrenches ever making it in the automotive world there aint no practice wrenching on cars never mind bikes.more risk involved .too many hacks in the bike industry. You have been chasing this noise for month's! Dont even get me started about what I think we had a long conversation about your experience with Derek.
