Very interesting stuff about synthetic oil and plastic shims. I guess they use plastic because it's CHEAPER than metal? I don't think my ancient 4 speed has any plastic on the inside. I use 85/140 transmission oil and it seems to work pretty good.

Would a synthetic oil work better? I don't know, but I know they are costlier.

I doubt it. Been a lot of HD bikes running amsoil gear lube and all it did was wear better and last longer.

Amsoil is recommending the 20-50 oil for the new bike's transmission.

Was told at the HD dealer last summer that Harley had approved Redline in their bikes. :)

Think its the 90 weight Amsoil I'am using, memory ain't what it use to be but have a quart in the shop. Started using it after reading a article in Harley-Performance(which is where I originally found this forum) and decided to try it. Seems to make a difference for the better so far.:D
