My really cool bubble shield is hanging in a really cool place on my shop wall. I'm wearing RX goggles with photo grey lenses and an "old skool" beanie helmet nowadays.

I have since found out that the inset on the tranny lid is the end of the shifter shaft. Inset is normal - leak isn't. I cleaned mine up and filled it with sillycone and . . . no more leak. Now I have other leaks to deal with.

Well, I have a leaking seal behind the points plate - it's the seal that goes around the points cam shaft. It's a small leak, eventually seeping it's way through the hole where the coil wire comes out of the cone. That one is an easy fix. The other one will be a little more troublesome as it's on the tranny main shaft (drive sprocket side). Besides replacing the main seal, I'm also going to get a new spacer that has an o-ring on the inside. That is usually where the leak really is. They are custom made by a guy known as Saddlebagrail and I think they sell for $40.

In the meantime, I can still ride while I'm waiting on all the parts to trickle in. Just need to clean the back side of the bike up some after a ride, especially the left side of the rear tire.

Wrench & ride, as Lucifer says.

Shovelheads always leak. I've been chasing leaks on my bike the whole time I've had it.
Tranny leaks suck. You just bought that tranny, didn't you?
Mine leaks too. It's being rebuilt right now.

I hope that you found a good mechanic to rebuild it for you, Tommy. It's a real PIA to have to tear everything apart to get to a leaking main seal. Mine only has 600 miles on it after a rebuild.

See if you can get one of those sprocket spacers with the o-ring in it and have your mechanic put it in while the tranny is apart. It keeps the oil from seeping out from behind the spacer and the splined main shaft.

You can email the guy who machines the groove in the spacers at: saddlebagrail@ yahoo.ca

    I'm getting mine next week . . .

My tranny has a tapered shaft not splined, I will ask about it anyway.
    Thanks.
