YEP, and I couldn't get out of there fast enough especially having lived in the west and seeing the east coast. Sorry don't mean to sound negative just didn't like the NE area and if they pass a stupid law like that more than just myself will never visit there.

Moving is definitely understandable, but a sad solution. On the way to becoming an environmentally intelligent country, mistakes are sometimes made by well intentioned but uninformed people on both sides of these kinds of issues. To me, it's reasonable to ask that straight pipes be adjusted to a level that isn't heard a mile away, but to require I change my exhaust because it doesn't have an EPA stamp and not create a way for me to get one is against basic American principles and sounds way too much like a Communist Russian way of doing things.

*thanks for the signatures guys, every one helps.

This discussion here has brought back memories of the time I bought a Cottman Transmission franchise years ago (big mistake, and sold it after just two years). Had to spend two weeks in Philadelphia going to training classes and vowed I would never go back there again. I don't know how they put up with all those toll booths and the traffic congestion, seemed worse than L.A. Has got to be one of the dirtiest cities I have ever seen. T

As for laws regulating motorcycle exhaust they are going to probably have a tough time getting it passed. There are way to many businesses and bikers that will fight it. I do agree that straight pipes are a bit loud. We had a couple of guys join us on a HOG chapter ride once that were riding V-Rods. The aftermarket exhaust system that they had on them were so loud that they were finally asked at a stop if they would ride in the back. They got pissed and took off but when I hear exhaust like that I can understand how some uneducated lawmaker might want to ban all loud exhaust. If a unfair law like that does get passed it could spread all across the country so stopping it in its tracks now is the best solution.

My point exactly! Soon counties will have a no motorcycle law, much like ones that have no alcohol.

You're right Skull2007. Most of the crooks who created the environment for the financial collapses of late are from right here. So now, they'll create archaic rules and crippling fines just to cover their ass and get back at those no good bikers who make all that noise.

Back when I was an independent "owner/operator" we used to call it "Filthadelphia". And we voted with our wallets - new tax on semis? OK, we just won't deliver or pick up loads there, or even drive thru your State. Been so long I don't remember the details, but some proposed legislation wasn't passed because enough drivers said we just won't go there anymore. After all, more regulation/taxes is about revenue collection, not making the city or State safer.

were back to the modern problems that plauge us nobody wants to help any one else, associate with anyone else, stand up for anyone else, or take risk.
and everyone is sure to point fingers place blame, and step on the downed man to get the last icecream cone, that goes for unions alike they aren't unions anymore they are money making machines for execs, tell me i'm wrong,
as for laws most are made by the minority, like the pipe law in denver probably some SOB's wife/gf rode off in to the sunset on a rumbling harley cause she uhm like the feeling of freedom. If some pansyass feels remotely intemidated by something, bikers, guns, truckers, cowboys, lowriders, etc. because of their lack of a spine to confront you, your going to see a law about it somewhere. the majority however has done nothing to fin off these pains in the rectal area, why, we have jobs, we have hobbies, we are busy, it doesn't concern us, sucks to live in NY, where last year it was sucks to live in DEN, thats the neighbors problem, basicly we are relying on the other guy to step up cause whats in it for me, and I havn't got the time to standup and help but I sure have the time to bitch about it.
maybe i woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning :gah:

Thanks guys. The City Council office has been closed for "the holidays", even on days when most of us were working. I'll call on Monday, but I've got a suspicion the fix is in and it has already been decided.

Well, it seems that the legislation has been back burnered for the moment, but I think they'll sneak it in somewhere real soon. Republican representative Peter Vallone from Staten Island, NY says "your argument is falling on deaf ears" when someone mentioned the "Loud Pipes Save Lives" saying. That's not gonna float here, so we better find a more effective argument. Common sense is there's no rational reason to require EVERYONE to have pipes with an EPA stamp imbedded in it, with no way to get one imbedded, other than buy new pipes, but common sense doesn't always prevail. Thanks for the responses guys.

First Denver now New York, who's next I wonder? It really seems that the flow of new people in government along with new ideas and with the new politics that is sweeping this country that we are going to have some pretty negative impacts for us and in many other areas in the country. It really seems that this country is on a negative downturn and where does it stop or does it.
