Vance an Hines exhaust question

    I installed bigshots on my 06 Fatboy,a friend of mine told me I should take the baffles out,I don't like the idea, but if I did would I have to a adjust on the carb.I also installed a arllen ness big sucker air filter and in stalled a 88-89 jet needle and adjusted the idle mixture screw.The bike runs great with all the adjustments made,thanks.

    JMO it's not a great idea, baffles help keep some backpressure and are designed to keep the noise down.

    It will also kill your performance on the bottom end, might help a few ponies up top but unless you ride on a dragstrip it's not worth it. Keeping the low to mid range TQ is key for a heavy bike.

    Then there is the sound issue...
    Loud pipes are ok, figging stupid loud pipes only serve to attract LEO's and make the bike community a problem for city officials.

    Ever ridden with the numb nuts that pulls the baffles out of his drag pipes, thinks it's cool because on the bike you can't hear the pipes as well as you can from the side or behind him. Hurts your ears, that with the wind and other noises makes riding by these guys a pain in the ear LOL

    FWIW leave them in and keep the tq, tell him you'd rather have the torque than a ticket.

    It seams when I ride up beside one of the guys with open pipes and ask them what time it is they all have the same answer Haa. Can anyone tell me what time Haa is.

    if ya take the baffles out, and dont do some major tuning, as hrk said, it will run like crap, and damage your engine......

    I have the V&H staggered big shots and they are pretty loud stock. You can get baffles from V&H to quiet them down a bit, and I've thought about it. I can only imagine how loud they would be without any baffles. I wouldn't remove yours if nothing more than the tuning difference. People don't seem to have as good a sense of humor about loud pipes anymore. I luv the sound, but too many complainers anymore.:cussing:

    Out at Laughlin I saw a vendor selling a device that mounts to each muffler and can be remotely adjusted to tune the exhaust noise. They were promoting them for use when leaving early in the morning and in areas requiring quiet pipes. I didn't get the full scoop on them but it was an interesting concept. It appeared to be made up of an actuator, perhaps that opens/closes an internal trap door.
