I was trailering my ole Royal Star from Sacramento to Modesto about 5 years ago to my mechanic for a tuneup (he wanted the bike cold, and it'd take over an hour to cool off..so I trailered it) on an early Saturday morning of Memorial Day weekend. Any way, I was cruising down I5 at about 58 mph (55 mph speed limit in California while pulling a trailer) when a CHP pulls me over. I'm thinking..geez..3 mph over the limit! Nope..he noticed from parked on the side of the freeway that I didn't have my seatbelt on. I'd pulled over a few miles back to give my old dog an insulin injection and forgot to buckle back up. CHP said he'd rather see me driving a bit too fast than not buckled up. With it being a holiday weekend they were being vigilant about it. California law says they can pull you over if they notice you not buckled up. Most states have to pull you over for another infraction first, like Nevada where I am now. Though they're trying to push through legislation as I speak in Nevada to change that like California.

Used to be like that in Illinois too. First it wasn't illegal, then it changed to you couldnt be pulled over for it, but you could be ticketed if stopped for something else. Then it changed to both front seat passengers have to have a belt on or you could be stopped & ticketed. Its always a gradual progression. Same thing happened with guns in Chicago...First it was you could have em, then they had to be registered. Then they stopped registering them, & now they are illegal unless you had your gun regestered before 1980....The only thing good I can say about this state & its goofed up laws is that at least I dont have to wear a helmet.....YET.

well i have a good cop story also..
a few years ago i was on my way to clute tx for a blackpowder match...it was the state championship for chunk guns. i was head procurment guy and had a number of guns in the backseat, 2 or 3 cases of bp....50lb each...travlin down 280 in my f350 at about 85/90...no cars in sight...big 4 lane with huge median. come around a curve and there is mr.dps. i know he got me, as i see his brake lights come on. i pull to the side of the road, with windows down, hands on the wheel, engine off when he pulls up. he askes me to the squad car...we talk a bit, he runs my liscense and ccw license....tells me to keep it at 65 (the posted speed) and be carefull.....to this day i feel the ccw got me free of that one....and the cop was just as respectful of me as i was of him.....we talked a bit about the match, even invited him down....got lucky on that one!!!!!
oh ya, i finished 9th in the state tourney......

    yeah down wave

usually a down low open hand which ends up being almost sometimes a peace sign kinda... I mentioned this this before myself. I just get a bit off my wave mark when alot the folks are the same ones that will cut ya off Monday thru Friday..then wanna wave in an all htat..sure I do not always know who is who..but one are of town out here I can spot em a mile away.
other than that my one buddy said the reason for the low fist or peace sign wave is harley guys are always carrying their tools and can't let go of em'.
he laughs but he is an ol' biker from way back.
