We get along ok. He's a typeA personality. Very successful. Built corporations so he does know business. Here's a good one; the house we live in the wife found after I went on a fishing trip. I came home to see it and it was a pos. Needed lots of work. I didn't want it. Her dad looked it over. I got him on the side asked him his opinion. He said its a pos. I asked him what he'll tell my wife. He said he would tell her. Later she asked him. "Daddy what do you think?" I swear to god he said " it's a nice house". I was doomed. $80k first year in required improvements. The money pit.

Son married a girl w/ a family like that...he's so screwwed he hasn't a clue. At this point he's barely hanging on.

When I got married I saw my wifes family was like that so between her family and mine we agreed to move far away and have been happy ever since. True story.

You not get a home inspection done before buying it? Anytime my wife says I'm buying it, I look for a door and start running.

Yeah wife's youngest sister (daddy's baby) married and her husband was smarter than me. He moved her one week after wedding to Tucson. Man was he on top of his game.

Yeah but here the so called inspectors are worthless. I know more than them. I had to point out to the "engineer" many things. But it was too late. Daddy said its a nice house ! Aluminum wiring and all! Only 3 boxes were pigtailed and not even to code. The list goes on and on.

I know there are good inspectors in your area. ASHI and NAHI inspectors are good and are held to a higher level. The franchise inspectors are the ones to stay away from. Many have web sites you can check out that will even include sample inspections they did. I did and used some of my real inspections for a client to check out. Here you can also check out any inspector with the state and find out if there are complaints against one. Here inspectors mustbe licensed by the state and bonded and insured and many other states also require that.

I do my own when I am in control of the purchase. I am very well experienced in all phases of electric, plumbing, frame, block, concrete, stucco and flat or pitched roof. Like I said, FIL was in charge and he even recommended the a hole engineer.

I had many buyers that were as they said well versed in all those areas that would tag along with me. Inspection took longer and when I was finished I would go over the inspection with them and I always got the I'm glad you did the inspection I had no idea that your were looking at this or that and what I found. They also didn't have the specific tools that I used (infrared, moisture meters) plus more.
It was usually the wife that insisted on an independent inspection done. :)

Wife has 22" and they expect another 29" on the north shore of the island! That's out in suffolk. The further east you go the more snow. Nyc is much better off. Wife had to borrow out back door to let Harley go do his duty. Drifts are bad. Wind gusts over 50 mph.

We had 60+mph winds, and about 40cm, (about 1 1/2 feet), and continual snow until Monday, when another possible 30-40cm on the way. New Toro snowblower working like a champ so far, fuel consumption down over last year and it does not wake the daughter early in the mornings like the old Tecumseh did.... and no, I don't work for Toro!
