I'm afraid the snow and the cold came a smidge early this year.

It always seems too early. I would not mind Dec 24 to maybe Jan 24, but November to April is a bit much.

Our snow melted...Now we just need some rain to wash the salt off the road so I can go for a ride...

People here have studded tires because of black ice and they really chew up roads, blacktop or concrete.
It's usually the older crowd or snow skiers. I hate that sound of studded tires on dry pavement.

People up here are just studs and push through it! Rode home last nite on a 13 -14 mile long hockey rink.

It'd just snowed, melted and rained during the day then dropped to 25 degrees and well..you know the rest.

Studs outlawed here for all the reasons you mentioned. When I was a teen at pops shop we used to mount studded tires. Then the law.

No studded tires permitted back here for some years now...Eats up the road they say...And yeah...Salt is a problem...They use too much...You look in the rearview mirror and see a white cloud at times...Washes into the streams and other areas...The deer will also come onto the roads and lick it causing accidents...

Oregun is full of idiot liberals. We get a lot of ice on the roads, poor grandma and the soccer moms gotta have her studded tires. I've never owned any and neither has my wife. Just slow down or stay home.

Today is a wet cold with the clouds engulfing my house as the pass by.

Studded tires are helpful in ice and snow hardpack, on fresh snow and bare roads are studs are just wasted. Sometimes hardpack snow/ice on some of our back roads can be a few inches thick. I run studs, but have done without also, depends on the winter. Salt and studs, frost heaves, and overloaded trucks kill the road surfaces up here, not really safe for riding until end of July once most all potholes are filled.
Salt destroys the vehicles around here, usually a heavy undercoat each season is necessary, two sets of tires,(all seasons and winters) winter floormats, trunk shovel and a bag of sand/salt are required to drive up here. Jan. and Feb. are worst, begins to warm up in Mar., which usually means the storms get a bit worse for a bit.

I would move south if it was like that here every winter. If yea got a wife who won't move then yea better get involved in some winter activity and just enjoy it.

Winter does suck...nothing redeeming about it as far as I'm concerned. Not anymore. Not sledding any more, not skating/hockey any more, not skiing/snow boarding any more etc...Just spending $$$ to stay warm and shoveling and snow blowing.
