To Wear or Not to Wear

When I started riding again, I agreed to wear a helmet (my wife insisted). Since I already have had a head injury (and a hole in my skull) I generally feel like I don't need to tempt fate again. I do occassionally go helmetless, but not very often and not very far.:banghead:

    helmets

I wear one because I want to. A helmet has saved my head/ butt before and want the chance for it to save me again. Its just a matter of time.

    over my head

HI all I like to wear a helment. Feel safer for my head. I've been down on the bike and it saved my skull more than once. I see others without them in areas where there is no law requiring them To me not wearing one is a no brainer.

    Wearing a Helmutt

Like I said earlier, I do wear a helmet by choice here in Minnesnowta. There is no law requieing us to wear helmets here and I think it should stay that way. A friend of my daughter was just killed in a bike accident and a helmet would not have helped him regardless.

Taking the Rider's Training Courses offered by the state or the Rider's Edge courses from Harley Davidson are much better at helping riders learn how to prevent accidents than the false security offered by a helmet.

The U.S. DOT is recommending a mandatory national helmet law, but I have written my U. S. representatives and senators telling them to leave things alone.

    Agreed!.

With that said, after (2) brain surgeries in the last 3 years I CHOSE to wear one. I have three helmets: Winter, Summer (German WWII style w/Iron Croses), and an H-D 1/2 helmet.

Do I expect it to save my life if an 18 wheeler runs me down? No. But many a rider has been seriously brain damaged or even killed by relatively minor accidents that they would have been better off had they worn a helmet.

I think I'd worry more about insurance companies than the government too. It would be in their best interest to put a rider (no pun intended) in that says unless you are wearing a helmet, NO coverage for head injuries.

No I don't. But don't you think they haven't already considered this? At one time they considered voiding your medical if you didn't wear a seat belt! That will probably happen first because all states (I think) have seat-belt laws.

All the more reason NOT to make helmets mandatory.

What industries other than banks, Oil, and Insurance NEVER have long-term losses and can raise prices any time they want?:gah:

I choose not to. It's my head not the federal governments or state governments property. You may say well AL if you become a vegetable then you will become a burden to the taxpayer. Well, that is a problem of socialism, not liberty. I never expected the government to take care of me, that's my job and I have it taken care of with both insurance and a living will. AL

I just love this part: "This does not apply to a follower of the Sikh religion while wearing a turban".

Just wear a friggen turban and tell the Bobbies you are an international terrorist on a motorcycle and they won't write you up for not wearing a helmet!:wtf:
