WVAK47's Sporty Project

I am going to build a plate to hold the LP off the bottom of the light. My metal working tools are a bit shy as are some of my skills to make one to mount it on the side. Also the Sparto has a clear section on the bottom to light the plate and would look .... shall we say stupid just glowing clear on the back of the bike.

I have a set of brakes to change for the inlaws this weekend, but should have plenty of time left to work on the scooter. Won't get back online before Monday (PC dead at home and I don't miss it for once LOL God I love my bike). Hope to have more to show and tell come Monday.

Well company inventory has kept me away from the Sporty for the better part of Feb, but it is back on now. Put the belt guard and rocker covers back on last night. Tightened up all the rear fender and shocks, so the butt is done other than putting the new brake shoes in and the rear wheel back on. Getting new tires this Friday, along with my missing two gaskets and she should go back together this weekend. Weather permitting I should test ride Sunday Afternoon. Haven't taken any more pics just yet but I will have some come Monday. Felt good to spin a wrench on her again last night, be back at it again this evening.

Although I like the shiny derby I broke down and shot it red as well along with the joints on the shifter linkage.

Just another shot of the gearcase. Nothing really special or new just mounted.

Shot of my fabbed license mount. This light had one originally but being a product of the 50's sliding through the chopper years of the 60s and 70s it lost a little weight LOL. This rascal took a bit to get fitted as the curve on the front of the light wasn't smooth, had to trim and fit, trim and fit, several times. But worth it in the end I think.

Pulley side of the rear wheel. Shot the center red, and the pulley center black. Kinda funny with the red drop behind makes the wheel center look missing LOL.

Not such a great pic but a run at the right side anyway. Don't know if you can tell or not but the tank is a bit darker gray than the fenders. Don't know if it has to do with the paint seasoning or my bigger fear different lots of paint. Either way screw it, it stays as is until I add the detail to the tank anyway.

Painted the coil to add a bit of red to the top front.

Couldn't get the shocks to my liking so I shot the centers and springs flat black.

A vew of the tailights. Turnsignal kit installed to make them work as brake lights as well as the Sparco wired up with an 1157 socket. I ain't real sure that mud tire is going to work on the front but kinda like it in the pic LOL.

It could be done more professional I guess but for a $45 paint job I am happy with it.

Thanks Cowboy, the light in the pics don't do justice to the color difference that appears in person. They are truly different. Again I hope it might be an seasoning of the paint or where the fenders have wax and the tank doesn't yet. Who knows, but all I know is it is staying that way for now and that is "How I meant for it to be" :roflmao: if anyone asks.

The shorter turn signals is a major goal of mine. HD does not offer a direct replacement, but there are after market ones. Only thing is the curse of the 04-06 sporty. Changes made and aftermarket is just getting around to catching up with them. I don't know for sure if the 03 kit will work on it or not. Waiting to see my buddy's 03 to look over his light mounts to see if they are close enough to work. If so I will order the kit for the 03, if not I will wait LOL. Sooner or later they will move in closer.

Looks The Same As My O3, Only Difference Is I Believe That Yours Comes With A Bigger Tire, Not Sure If They Put On Bigger Fenders, But The Fender Strutts Look Like The Same Set Up.

Don't be sorry, heck I even commented on it. When I snapped the pic I wasn't paying attention to background. I think it is funny how it turned out. One thing is for sure, that little 883 piglet wouldn't be able to lift that one off the ground no matter how hard you got on it or dumped the clutch to it LOL.

The new ME880 I got for the rear looks like it has as much tread depth as that mudder though. Dang, those things have some serious tread to them. Everyone in the garage has commented on that tire, and I believe all of them have said it will be their next rear tire LOL.

Got the new LED Cat's eyes installed on my buddy's 95 springer last night and standing around in the garage looked at mine and figured no reason I couldn't see the lights on it. So put the main fuse back in and threw juice to it.

Got a surprise, and not a welcome one. The little box that I put on to make my turnsignals function as brake lights did great for that. Only thing with a single socket, there is no way to get running lights as well, so the only running light I have on the rear at this point is that little taillight I put on there. NOT a fan of this idea, so it is time to buy some 1157 sockets and redo that little screw up. Glad we tried that before I put that rear wheel back on there. They say something about piss poor planning LOL. I should have known a ground and single lead wouldn't produce a running light as well as brake and turns :gah: . Fun part is I have overcome much worse problems with this girl in the past so this is just a time thing no biggy

Since We Are Talking About Tail Lites, Maybe You Could Give Me A Pointer On Mine. My New Tail Lite Has Only A Black And Red Wire, I Wanted To Just Cut Off The Conecter From The Stock One To Make Life Easy, Same 1157 Sockets But The Oem Has 3 Wires, The Extra Wire Is A Ground From The Harness Conecter To The Back Of The Socket, Plus The Two That Are The Pos And Neg To The Bulb, Looks Like 2 Grounds To Me, Will It Still Work With Out It?
