I agree with you on this DW. I felt really comfy with releasing the mag with index finger when gripping the XDS and the XDM. If there is no sacred law saying that I MUST ABSOLUTELY NOT DO THIS I think that the XDS and the XDM have just moved into my favorite spots for gun of choice. Of course the all important test is that I have to fire them to see how I like the action. Thanks DW....

The answer to our question is no, that is not the correct way to release the slide release. However if the index finger works why not. Did you watch that video Of Hickok45 shooting the XDS. Watch him how he uses both hands. He is right handed also and he reaches over with his left hand grabbing the slide and using his thumb presses down on the slide release. He does this very quickly so you have to watch close.
Basically using both hands as he does and how I do it, it takes pressure off the heavy spring thus being easier to release the slide.

I tried to watch it but for some reason it will not let me view it. I will have to go back and search him out to look at it.

I see him reaching over the gun but it isn't for when he is releasing the mag. I see him doing it when is checking to see if the breech is empty. Slide release.

Don't know why so many folks try to bust their chops to show us that the weapon is empty. They should know. They waste too much time making the video doing that.
It ain't gonna shoot threw the computer and shoot us.

But he is also releasing the mag with his thumb. I'm sorry should have made that more clear. Just wanted to show you how he was doing the whole thing. You can release it with the finger but I like using the thumb and grabbing the next mag at the same time thus keeping my hand holding the pistol in the position to be ready again.

That dude has really big hands. Now if the XD series had a mag release extension that I could fit it with like the M&P, this would give me a good platform for a fair comparison when I go out and shoot them.

If you are very strong, you can release it with your thumb. No problem
I never think about it. I just release it.
If you are not. use yer left hand and use yer thumb and release it.
Don't know what matter it makes. You are only releasing the clip to take bullets out or to put another mag in, Unless you are cleanin it.
Then it still makes no difference.

You just need to handle weapons more. Then it becomes 2nd nature to you.

:roflmao: yea Hickok45 has some big paws and long fingers. Longer thumbs also work better when releasing the slide release. That's why I was saying watch him how he even used his left hand to reach over the top to release the slide release. I know that XDS has a pretty stiff slide spring to.

They are pretty tight when new. After about 300-400 rounds they do loosen up. That's also how you get to know you pistol, by shooting it and learning it. Plus you get to have a lot of fun.

By the way for all the kids at your home, you'll want to get a small safe for the pistols.

I would advise against the bio lock,
if you cut your hand or have blood on you
anything that might cause the bio to not read.

    the four button works perfectly..

I would like one like that but at this time I do not have a decent place to put something that big. Looks really heavy....

Yea, I think it's over 550 pounds. Took me two hours to move it from my shop to the house. Did it by myself. It's installed on the lower lever don't think I could have got it up the stairs to the main level.
Know some guys who put em in their garage and lag bolt em down to the concrete slab.
I got one because of thieves and the grandchildren.

The gun safe I posted is a place for super quick access, And with a pistol in it the kids can't get it.
If somebody comes in a door or window you need to have access to a weapon in a very short time.
I sold the safes for a living to customers when I had my locksmith business.
