I found a clean 2000 Honda 250 Rebel for my lady to learn to ride. The bike runs good and is mechanically sound. The question I have concerns the exhaust system. The stock pipes were set up one on each side with a crossover. This bike at some time in the past was modified to bring both exhausts to the right side, aka staggered shorty duals on a Sportster, with no connecting pipe. Each cylinder now has a straight pipe to the slip-ons. They are branded “Jansfeld”, which I am not familiar with. I seem to remember the crossover pipe is designed to equalize pressures in the exhaust system.
Should I be looking at putting a stock exhaust system back on? I note a slight deceleration lean pop and there is some bluing on the headers, which also seems within the normal range for a bike this age...

I got the inside pad off OK...installed new pad....everything was going well, I pulled both pins out to remove the outside pad...but when I got the outside pad off the inside pad fell out as well. :cussing: Now is my only option to remove the rear wheel and caliper and all? Or is there a less painful option? Anybody else run into this?

Great forum, findoing lots of interesting things to read... not getting much work done..
I have the 03 anniversary 1200 XL Custom Sportster and am thinking of fitting a fat tank to it.. Has anyone done this ?. It would give me better distance between fill ups and also I like the fatter tank in fornt of me.
One problem I see is the paint job. My bike is Black with the anniversary tape and badges on the tank and I would like to keep the same style.. I think I can remove the badges form the existing tank and get some double sides tap eto affix them to the new one, although I will buy new ones if I can find them.. However, anyone know if I can buy the tape to put around the tank?
Also any suggestions on who would do a great paint job.. its only black but it must be a good finish.....

So far it seems to be a wet trip to sturgis for about everyone and hot01 you've caught your share I'm sure . been working next to the road watching all the bikes go by and for the last three days there are a lot of rain suits as the standard riding attire, I rode 200 mi to silverthorne and 120 was in gully washer rain, should have pulled over but once your wet just as well kick back and enjoy the ride. besides just proves I'm not as sweet as some think:roflmao: to all ride safe if'n you have any problems around the cheyenne area let me know got space and tools to get you rolling again.
