Since I am laid up and worthless, I had Ol' Red dropped off at a Reno shop to get some new pipes (V-H Pro 2-1), a dyno run/rejet and gear drive for the cam, replacing the auto-tensioned chain (which I understand is better than the untensioned, but still a risk not worth taking if I make a run to AK).
So the question is: should I get a slightly hotter cam? I run the stock 88 and though I've toyed with more displacement I like the reliability and mileage of the current setup. I used to blast down highways at 140mph on other bikes, but that was then and now I enjoy the cruising more than the ridiculous speeds...rarely break 100 anymore. If I could improve highway performance without significant loss of MPG, that would be great. Can I?
What especially do you fellow bagger riders...

Black with 5200 miles. Stage 1 upgrade with Vance and HInes "Bigshot" staggered exhaust. Has HD original equipment detacable windshield and sissy bar. If it's to loud for you <grin>, it also comes with the original exhaust. This bike also has a carburetor (last of it's breed thanks to the EPA), which I think makes it easier and less expensive to maintain. Garage kept, never in rain, Amsoil syn in all 3 holes. Bought a new Heritage and the wife says either the Fatboy goes or I do. Retails in Kelly Blue Book for $15,600. Asking $14,500. If interested, send me a private message. I live in Fairfax Virginia which is a suburb of Washington D.C.

This past week, I attended the HST member rally in Tennessee. Saturdays ride culminated in the running of the dragon...which for me, didn't go so well.
I had left the deals gap store ahead of everyone in my group because I wanted to be able to run faster without getting bottled up behind some of the slower riders. My success charging through twisty back roads all week had given me a bit of overconfidence that would prove to have consequences.
I was about eight miles into the eleven mile stretch and had probably ground my way through over 200 of the 318 curves by that point. I entered a decreasing radius right hand turn a little too fast and was using engine braking to scrub off some speed while I had her leaned over hard. My line wasn't holding and there was an oncoming group of...
