I've broken in a couple of new Yamaha water-cooled 4 bangers and did the simple stuff like changing speeds periodically to not sit at the same rpm too long, but never a big air-cooled bike. My friend Kim just bought herself a new '06 Softtail Deluxe..pretty as a picture with it's black and white paint. Any way..I was wondering if there were any particulars about the big air-cooled twin I need to tell her about?
BTW..Sleepy, good choice on the Softtail Deluxe you were telling me about when we were on the Bike Talk ride last Labor Day. It's the perfect bike for her. Being height challenged at 5' tall, she's never had a bike she could put her feet flat on the ground before without lowering the bike. She had the seat cut down some (they did a good job on the stock seat to keep it's match...

I Was Wonderin, I'm Going To Up Size My 1 3/4 Drags To 2". My ? Is I Want To Take The Old Pipes And Fabricate Them Into Some Short Custom Pipes. How Long Should They Be Before It Becomes A Valve Issue? Are The Short Pipes On All Those Custom Bikes Just For Show? If So, What's The Point If You Can't Ride It.

I have a 1986 FLHTC which I will be replacing the rear belt. I would like to know the best way to make sure the belt is aligned properly and how to do this. Plus, I have a 32 tooth front or transmission pulley right now (stock). I was wondering if I went to a different size how that would affect the gearing and performance. If I went a tooth or two smaller would the give me more top end or am I backwards in this idea. Any help would really be appreciated.

Bought a new 06 RK in NW Fla in Dec 05, ran geat until March when (ironically the weather was warming up) I started to have cold start issues (coughing as though I had a carb when actually have EFI). Took it to a HD dealer, one located between Tallahasse and Pensacola and they said there was a service bulletin stating if there are cold start, stalling, or acceleration issue to replace the 8 degree fuel injectors with 25 degree FI's. Well the cold start issue seemed to be resolved, but after 3 days out of the shop, cruising on back roads at about 60 MPH it dies! It did start right back up but it was back to the shop. Here they swap out the fuel reg, no help, order a fuel pump, no help, then replace the check valve...they say it's cured, not sure just got it back. Oh yeah, they scratched...
