I have never owned a motorcycle and want to begin to learn. I am not looking for anything expensive to begin with because I want something that if I mess up, I wont be financially hurt. I am currently looking at purchasing a 1997 Honda Shadow 600 for $1200-$1400. Number 1: Is this a good beginners bike. 2. Is this a reliable bike that will get me from point a to point b. 3. Is it priced correctly? He has it listed for $1600, but I'm sure I can talk him down. 4. He said it needs a new front tire (not rim, just tire), so how much would that cost to replace. 5. I am waiting on his response to see if it is a vlx, 600cd, vt600c, etc... Let me know what you guys think.

Any assistance would b muchly appreciated! I'm looking to rejet my stock carb on 2003 roadking with 88 in.eng and HD stage 1 intake. its only got 26 k miles now and I changed to 2/1 patriot exhaust with header pipe about 8k miles ago. I delayed rejetting but now tailpipe is turning a copper tone (LOL), has alot of black carbon buildup inside it, and gets poor gas mpg! is it a cv carb? which of their rebuild kits would work best? thanx guys! a dude said gas could mix into the oil but I don't smell gas in oil after a ride.
THANX FOR REPLY! No gas smell by the bike parked after a ride but as mentioned burning a lot of fuel and the back half of 2/1 pipe is turning a copper tone ( LOL) tint and a lot of black carbon buildup inside tail pipe. these set of pipes have about 8k miles on em! oh,...

Hello all,
I have a 1997 Sportster 883 hugger that would cough and backfire upon quick acceleration. I thought it was typical sportster cough or a dirty carb, so I ordered the CVP carb kit, pulled the carb, did a nice deep clean (it was dirty) and performed the carb kit install.
To start, the carb must have been played with before because it had two shims on the needle, a 180 main jet and a 45 pilot jet installed already. The carb cover had also been lightly siliconed down tot he top of the carb.
So, I changed the jets to the 44/175 as noted in the install instructions, installed the new spring, needle (with no shims) and emulsion tube, drilled the slide and installed the easy adjust mixture screw. I also cleaned any sealant off the top of the cover and the diaphram.

woo hoo! Another 10 inchs of snow and still coming down. Had to get up at 6am to dig my wife out so she could get to work. Again we went from almost bare ground to 10+. Slow going with the blower.
