For the last few years, I have really enjoyed your tech articles and product reviews. You guys have done an excellent job.
I am considering an engine upgrade (that I can get at a good price) with the following:
- S&S gear drive kit
- S&S gear drive installation kit
- Andrews TW37G cam
- Cylinders bored to 95"
- Vortec heads
- Cast pistons cut for the Vortec heads
- SE adjustable push rod kit
- Top gasket including cometic head gasket .030.
- Cam cover gasket
Would you it be wise and would you recommend a Feuling oil pump and lifters? I would like to avoid oil blowby through the air cleaner.
Do you believe I need to consider getting a Delkron cam plate? (some people tell me no and others recommend it) If so, what is the difference between the Delkron TC88...

Now I know that AFNurse has been boring you all with stories about riding in Germany, but hey he is RIGHT!!! There is some really good riding here. If any of you ever get the chance to do the European Bike Week then go for it. I was there last year. Unbelieveable. We drove from Frankfurt, Germany to Faaker See, Austria. We did a 2 day backroad / pass drive there (Germany, Italian, Austria) and Interstate ride back. I have to admit that i found the two day ride the best. We stopped at the top of the highest pass in Europe "Timmelsjoch 2509meters" to take a few pictures. (If you see the pic I am the 3d from the left.) I hope I do not offend anyone by listing a link here. I am not in a club. This is a group of guys and girls that like to ride bikes here in Frankfurt. We are NOT...

So after reading through the Tech Talk I have found about 3 threads where I might have been able to post this question. However none of those three were 100% related to my problem. I have a 1999 Sportster 1200C. After buying it (used) the carb was coughing and spitting. A freind and I adjusted the carb a bit and it was a bit better. But still not 100%. I had HD adjust the carb "just in case" but I must admit they did not do any better than we did.
Problem, when the motor is cool the carb spits and sputters (coughs, whatever you want to call it). After the motor is warm and I am riding things are ok, but sometimes when I back off the gas (and sometimes just while riding without backing off the gas). Then I can get a spit, sputter, cough or pop from the carb. No backfires from...

i have an 84' softail that needs new shocks. new ones are 300-500 bucks. i found some at a swap meet that were for a 89 up softail for really cheap. what is the difference in those and the 84-88 shocks? (besides the resevoirs) can you make em' work? something must be different(i think) because anywhere that sells softail shocks has different listings 84-88, and 89-99, and 2000 up. know anyone who's done this? any ideas?
can you help a poor guy save a buck?
