My daughters boy friend who knows nothing about cars or bikes, just bought a 1998 1200 Sportster, i am a auto mechanic and have had lots of Japenese bikes. He wants me to change the oils in his now and i know very little about Harleys so before i attempt it, i would love to have a basic howto on changing the oils.
All i do know is its a dry sump, its filled via the tank, i dont know how to drain it, nor how to, or where to fill/drain transmission.
He has bought Harley 20-50 oil to put in it.
Upon reading some web sites, i see a Harley Sportster should have a different tranny oil than other models? this correct?
And yes i know we ned a reapir manual, thast coming but bike has sat since last summer and he is aching to ride it , so am i thanks

I want to chrome the front end of my bike and am looking for a list of things that would be needed for my bike specifically. Is there a web site that one could put in the year make and modle of the bike and get a list of the parts? It would make it easier for me when purchasing different things. I am talking the whole front end from grips to calipers.

Just hope my mileage doesn't go down to much, but I'm Happy. Thanks Again.

We can post images as long as they are 39k or smaller. If you scroll down to the bottom and look under "attach files" click on manage attachments and follow the simple steps. If the file is to large, it will reject it.
I am considering an application that will allow images and will integrate into V-Bulletin.

I'm curious if anyone has replaced the fork springs in a Dyna and seen an improvement in suspension quality. My 2002 Wideglide has started bottoming on bumps that it used to not be bothered by. I thought maybe I would replace the stock springs with Progressive or Racetech stock length fork spring kits.
I didn't see these items on DP's online store but I'll call to see if they handle them. I also heard that I should go a little heavier on the fork oil. I'm waiting for some experienced feedback first.
I appreciate any ideas or suggestions.
Thanks!
