I just finished new (to me) complete fuel system on my 85 softail. Rebuilt cv carb with full cv performance kit. Carb soaked and cleaned. Cv performance ez just and packing. 46 low 185 high speed jets. Found a cv carb intake with good straight flanges. New throttle cables. New air cleaner and backing plate. Every thing is new or in like new shape from heads to filter. Just did a compression test. Engine hot, throttle wide open, battery charged. 119 front barrel, 121 rear barrel. It's probably higher, used a rented auto zone tester (probably not very accurate). I made each one hold pressure for 45min. Stayed solid. Bike runs great. No coughing through carb, no backfiring through pipes. No popping on deceleration even on long hills. Seems really crisp on throttle wicks. The problem is both...

Well, boys, I finally put the ol' shovel motor back together after 8 months of rebuilding. I started it up the other day for the first time to begin break-in. She ran about a second before the tranny jumped out of neutral and into gear. Good thing I didn't let go of the handlebars - it stalled out after lurching forward a couple inches. I rechecked the clutch, made sure it wasn't grabbing. I kicked it over again and the same thing happened. The bike did this a few times last year, but never twice in a row. I decided to pull the tranny and it now sits on my bench. Expensive paperweight lol.
If anyone out there is willing to look into this transmission, please contact me. I am through trying to fix it myself.

I just finished building my 88 Softail. I was wondering what people thought of my combo. It's stock bore, 10.5:1 pistons, EV7 can, most adj pushrods, hi-lift springs, Weber side draft 45 dcoe, Crane Hi4e ignition, and Vance/Hines long shot sure shots. 5°rake, 2" lowered. Has anyone else built anything like this. It seems to run like a scalded dog. Any horsepower estimates

Just picked up a new 2017 dodge ram 2500 heavy duty crew cab hemi with the 6.4 liter motor. Seats 6 and 80$ less than my old truck. 1.99% financing so why not.
Lost some amenities but gained some others. No power seats, smaller info screen and i cannot drive it far yet because of having one eye. I visit my mother often and she's 3 hours away plus go to NC 4-5 times a year so we rack up the miles. Need some step up rails as i opted out to save a little money for now. Its a haul into the cab without them.
