So I took a run to Reno today, just to feel the wind and the power of my machine. Like most of us do, when we can. Stopped at my favorite cigar store, Fumare, as Life's stresses are strong and I needed some smoky relief (even though California's fires have been clogging our air for a week - sometimes it makes no sense). Since that run is over a hundred miles, I switched off the trip meter that I'm usually on (carburated, so no low fuel-low warning light) and checked out the odometer. Twenty miles from home I watched as it went from 99, 999 to 100,000 miles. Coooool. . I know I still have a few miles to go to make up for dyno runs and other mechanic's test rides, but still cool. Ol' Red, my 1999 Road King, has done her job. We've had our ups and downs, most notably on a...

While riding my Gold Wing, I swerved to avoid hitting a deer, lost control and landed in a ditch, severely banging my head. Dazed and confused I crawled out of the ditch to the edge of the road when a shiny new convertible pulled up with a very beautiful woman who asked, "Are you okay?"
As I looked up, I noticed she was wearing a low cut blouse with cleavage to die for... "I'm okay I think," I replied as I pulled myself up to the side of the car to get a closer look.
She said, "Get in and I'll take you home so I can clean and bandage that nasty scrape on your head."
"That's nice of you," I answered, "but I don't think my wife will like me doing that!"
"Oh, come now, I'm a nurse," she insisted. "I need to see if you have any more scrapes and then treat them properly."
Well, she was...

I have a '98 Softail Custom and have some transmission troubles, these have been going on for a couple years now, and gradually getting worse.
First of all I changed all oils, and filled them correctly.
I changed the clutch pressure plates, but not the steel plates.
The clutch is adjusted correctly as far as I can tell. I can pull the clutch in with the bike running and the bike doesn't "lurch" forward, as the case when the clutch isn't adjusted correctly and is partially engaged. I can also pull the clutch in and "walk" the bike forward and backwards without the slightest sensation of the bike trying to pull forward.
The engine and tranny are stock and the replacement friction plates are aftermarket stock replacement disks.
The Problems:
1. When the ambient temperature is cold, the bike...

Anyone know if there are better grade of header studs than stock that are safe to use in a Twin Cam? After finding my exhaust was loose at the rear port, I went to tighten it up, using a torque wrench set at 90lbs (manual calls for 120lbs, but I already broke a stud upon removal once so was gonna be gentle). The (*^%#@$#%$&^!!!!!!! thing broke at 50lbs!
This is the second time this year a header stud has broken on me. Anyone suggestions? And yeah, I am actually thinking of doing the "buy another one" replacement method. Craaap.
