I have a 04 883 converted with a 42mm mikuni. Backfireing from carb at idle and takeoff. Runs perfect once moving. I had Harley jet carb. They put a #155 main, And a #22.5 pilot jet. THis confuses me. According to the mikuni book, Std is #160 main and #25 pilot. Book says its to lean so why they downsize? Do I need to rejet larger or adjust jet needle?

I Have A 1970 Xlch And I Took My Generator Apart To Clean It. I Noticed That There Was No Magnetism In Between The Inner Parts. I Don't Know If It Was Putting Out Any Voltage Before I Took It Apart. I Put It Back Together And Put It In A Vice And Connected A Drill To It And Turned It Around Both Ways With A High Speed Drill, Checking It With The Voltmeter. No Voltage Output. Are These Gen's Suppose To Have Any Magnitism Inside Them Or Are The Magnets Or The Armature Bad. I Don't Have Alot Of Money To Spend On A New Generator So I Have To Buy Parts. What Is The Best And Easest Way To Troubleshoot The Gen And Also How To Check The Voltage With A Multimeter. Thankyou, Oldschool

Upon inspection, the battery was not dead but not enough umph to turn over so it was replaced - that problem fixed. Now after installing the carb rebuild kit (Keihin butterfly carb) it starts, accelerates good, but when just holding speed there is some missing which is very annoying. I have gone through the carb twice now, the second time also replacing the intake manifolds as well. The only problem in the carb I can see is the accelerator pump is not functioning very well. The pin hole in the bottom of the float bowl is no longer a one way valve and just squirts back into the bowl and not the throat jet. I have already spent 75 bucks on this carb,...
